Proposal for reform of the Lebanese Constitutional Council

On 6th of May 2016, a congress on the reform of the Lebanese Constitutional Council took place in Beirut, organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Lebanon. About 35 experts discussed proposals of reform of the Council whose legal organization holds deficiencies that in the past had led to a blockade of the Council’s work for several years. more…

Workshop "Women in Armed Conflicts" on 16th of April 2016 in Beirut

In cooperation with the Central Research House the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Lebanon conducted a workshop series on "Women in Armed Conflicts". The workshops address women that are active in politics and civil society to promote knowledge of international protection in armed conflicts.

Women in Baalbek move towards running for Municipal Office

Hadeel el Rifai, Yomna Tfaily and Mirvat Wehbe, three strong women participants from Baalbek decided to run for candidacy for the 2016 Municipality Elections after having participated at the joint project entitled “Promoting Women’s Role in Political Participation in Baalbek” which is conducted in partnership between the Lebanese Organization of Studies and Training (LOST) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). more…

Challenges and Reform Avenues for Constitutional Justice in the Arab World

In partnership with the Jordanian Constitutional Court and the Union of Arab Constitutional Courts and Councils, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is organising, on 28-29 February 2016, a regional conference entitled "Constitutional Justice in the Arab World: Current Challenges and Avenues for Reform". Presidents and members of constitutional courts and councils from 13 Arab countries will attend, along with the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.

Promoting Women’s Participation in Baalbeck

The Konrad Adenauer Foundation in cooperation with the Local Development Office at the Baalbeck-Hermel Governor’s office (LDO) and the Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) are working together on fostering social change by empowering 80 women in the Baalbeck-Hermel Region to participate in the local decision-making process and institutionalize their political inclusion with regard to the upcoming municipal elections in June 2016. more…

On Friday 18 December 2015, KAS is organising a panel discussion to review and discuss the recently published essay of political consultant Rabih El Chaer on the Lebanese Presidency of the Republic. The event aims to involve the general public in a debate on the issue of the Presidency within the context of the on-going governance crisis since May 2014. Panellists are: Ziyad Baroud, Wassim Manssouri, Nicolas Nassif, and Nawwaf Kabbara. The event is hosted by the Beirut Bar Association. more…

The Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and the Lebanese University will host an event about civil marriage in Lebanon including a discussion about the legal framework of civil marriages performed in Lebanon, aspects of personal freedom and religious concerns.
