Revisiting the Role of Special Courts

Which Role for Military Courts in the Arab World?

On Saturday, June 27, 2015, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and Justicia Foundation for Development and Human Rights co-organized a roundtable discussion in Beirut on the reform of special courts in Arab countries, particularly in Lebanon. The experts' discussion, which gathered politicians, researchers, lawyers, judges and CSO activists, focused on the limitation of the role of the military courts as a realistic prelude to its full abolition.

In cooperation with the Institute of Women’s Studies in the Arab World at the Lebanese American University (IWSAW – LAU), Konrad Adenauer Stiftung organized an international conference "Upholding Gendered Peace at a Time of War: Academics and Activists Speak Out on the Shifting Places of Women in the Arab World" from 8-11 June in Beirut. The four-day conference brought together international scholars and activists from all over the world, all united by their commitment to women’s rights.

Constitutional Law: Case Studies from Lebanon & Germany

Constitutional Law provides the general framework for the rule of law and constitutes the first prerequisite for democracy. For this reason, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Notre Dame University - Louaize (NDU) organized a seminar entitled "Constitutional Law: Case Studies from Lebanon & Germany", primarily addressed to students of Law and Political Science. The students benefited from concrete case studies pertaining to constitutional law. The event has met with a great response.
