Regional Training and Advocacy Workshop on Women Rights in West Africa

The African Court Coalition in partnership with Senegalese Association of Female Jurists (AJS) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung carried out a training and Advocacy workshop in Dakar, Senegal from 24 to 25 February 2015. The main objective of the training was to contribute towards strengthening the protection of women rights in West Africa by educating and creating awareness on the rights of women and relevant procedures to be followed in redressing violations of such rights. more…

Climate Change Conference in Nairobi, Kenya

KAS and DROP convened a conference on Challenges and Opportunities of Climate Change for Law, Policy and Development in Nairobi on 11th and 12th February 2015. It brought together international and national legal experts from Eastern Africa and was graced by inter alia, EACJ's Judge President Dr. Emmanuel Ugirashebuja, Hon. Martha Karua, Hon. Hon. Eddie Cross pays courtesy call on

Hon. Eddie Cross, MP and Member of PAC from Zimbabwe paid a courtesy call on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on the sidelines of the Climate Change conference held in Nairobi on 11th February 2015. During the visit, Hon. Cross was accompanied by Dr. Arne Wulff, Director of the Rule of Law Program. During his stay, Hon. Cross also graced KAS' Haki na Sheria forum that was held on 10th February 2015 and also appeared on Citizen TV's Power Breakfast Show on 12th February 2015.

The book was launched on 11th December 2014 in Nairobi. The Chief Guest at the launch was the Hon. Chief Justice Dr. Willy Mutunga who also contributed an article in the book. Others in attendance were judges, senior judicial officers, lawyers, academia, civil society representatives and the media. Jurists converge in Cape Town

The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in collaboration with the Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists convened the 2014 Annual Jurists’ conference on the theme “Implementing Africa’s New Constitutions: Opportunities, Prospects and Challenges,” in Cape Town, South Africa between November 18th and 22nd 2014. African Experts Study Group on International Criminal Justice

Konrad Adenauer Stiftung's African Experts Study Group on International Criminal Justice held its 2014 annual meeting in Arusha, Tanzania between November 11th and 14th 2014. The official opening was graced by Justice Augustino Ramadhani and Dr. Robert Eno, the President and Registrar of African Court on Human and People’s Rights respectively. ICC Chief Prosecutor asks UN to help enforce cooperation

ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has requested the UN Security Council to only use stronger language to ensure that all UN members co-operate in apprehending those who have been indicted but to also address the issue of non-cooperation. The OTP has on several occasions accused the Kenyan government of non-cooperation in the case facing President Uhuru Kenyatta. On its part, the Kenyan government has vehemently denied these accusations.

High Court in Kenya orders fresh recruitment of police officers

Justice Isaac Lenaola made a precedent-setting ruling by quashing the recruitment of about 10,000 new police officers in what he termed as an exercise tainted with corruption, irregulaties and blantant violation of the Constitution. In particular, he ruled that the Police Service Commission had no authority to delegate recruitment powers to sub-county committees thereby violating the constitution. He noted that any attempts to subvert the constitution must be resisted at all costs.
