15 Years of the International Criminal Court (ICC)

The International Criminal Court (ICC) was created in 2002 as an instrument against atrocities “that have outraged the conscience of mankind”. More than 120 states have joined since then. The global criminal court continues, nonetheless, to struggle for acceptance. Influential stakeholders such as the USA, China and Russia have not joined the agreement to date, while others are already considering withdrawing from it. Gender and Transitional Justice in East Africa: Exchanging Experiences and Expertise

The conference on Gender and Transitional Justice in East Africa was jointly organized by the KAS' Rule of Law Program for Sub Saharan Africa and Strathmore Institute for Advanced Studies in International Criminal Justice (SIASIC). Other partners included; The International Nuremberg Principles Academy, Prosecuting Conflict- related Sexual Violence Network and Adélia Foundation. The overall objective of the conference was to bring experts together to explore ways forward to ensure women’s full participation in gender perspectives throughout transitional justice processes in East Africa. more…

This conference was jointly organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Rule of Law Program for Sub-Saharan Africa and the Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, South Africa. The conference sought to identify and discuss the contemporary challenges to, and reasons for the steady decline in the state of the rule of law in the Sub-Saharan region.
