The Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies, based in Baghdad, was founded in 2012 and specializes in Iraqi national security affairs. Its goal is to contribute to security and stability in Iraq and the region. Linked to the Iraqi National Security Council, Al-Nahrain Center provides decision makers with studies, research and specialists on political and security issues. Furthermore, it holds seminars, conferences and workshops in order to enhance cooperation and an exchange of ideas between Iraq’s political parties and various national, regional and international actors.

Institute for International Law and Human Rights

The Institute for International Law and Human Rights (IILHR) is a non-profit organisation based in Baghdad, Iraq, with offices in Brussels, Belgium, and Washington, D.C. IILHR’s Iraq program works with leaders in both the Iraqi government and civil society to strengthen human rights and rule of law in Iraq. It does so by assisting in the development and enactment of draft legislation and Constitutional amendments as well as through advocacy. IILHR aims to provide independent, neutral, and well-informed advice and support to its local partners and publishes written analysis, all of which is translated into local languages and freely distributed.

The European Technology and Training Center (ETTC) was opened by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in 2009 and works as an NGO for the political and economic development of Iraqi-Kurdistan. It provides capacity building measures in the fields of good governance, democracy, human rights, rule-of-law as well as humanitarian relief and is engaged in activities to further local businesses and startups. As an independent, Erbil-based organization, ETTC cooperates with international partners and hosts workshops, trainings and other events.

Al-Gherbal is a bimonthly Syrian magazine issued in Kafr Nabl, Idlib Province, Syria. It has a representative office in Gaziantep, Turkey, in addition to 20 reporters working in Northern Syria. The magazine was established in 2013 and focuses on critical and diverse reporting on all aspects of life in Syria. Al-Gherbal publishes reports on Syrian culture as well as community issues, for example services, infrastructure, education, youth, women, and children, in addition to literature, culture and politics. Currently, 5,000 copies are printed per month, and ten to twenty thousand visitors enter the magazine’s website on a daily basis.
