The first regional parliamentary center established
As a result of the cooperation between KAS and the Secretariat of Thai National Assembly (SNA), the first Regional Parliamentary Center (RPC) has been established in Ubonratchathani. The RPC will offer seminars on parliamentary democracy and provide information material on legislative procedures. In addition, the center will serve as an address for requests and petitions. During the opening ceremony the SNA launched also the new website for regional parliamentary centres: www.sna-dem.com

The Internal Security Act: Implications for the Southern Conflict
On 18 December 2008, the KAS organized a workshop “The Internal Security Act: Implications for the Southern Conflict” with high-ranking military officers and representatives of the civil society. The workshop aimed at providing a platform for discussion about implementation of the Internal Security Act, which became effective at the beginning of 2008, focusing on its implications for the ongoing Southern conflict. Among other participants was the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Thai Army.

Seminar on 'Participatory elements of democracy'
As a part of the 9th Thai National Conference on Political Science & Public Administration KAS organized, in cooperation with Chulalongkorn University, the seminar "Participatory Elements of Democracy", which was held on 3rd of December. Focusing on political education, political parties and other actors in pluralistic democracies, the speakers discussed the different levels of participation in the German and Thai society, but also gave possible solutions for improving the political system.
Discussions on Solving the Political Crisis
On october 29. KAS organized a discussion focusing on the current political crisis in which high-ranked representatives from politics, economy and media articulated their various interests, pointed out ways for solving the crisis and appealed for dialogue. Being the first event of this kind since the beginning of the political conflict the discussion achieved big media coverage.
Exchange Program with Muslim Youth
In cooperation with the Sawasdee Thai Foundation the KAS accomplished an exchange program with the Muslim Youth Network from 3 provinces of South-Thailand in October 25.-30. 16 persons representing universities and regions met with deputy Prime Minister, General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh, other representatives of the government, the mayor of the Rayong province. The activity aimed at network building among community leaders through dialogue and exchange.

Seminar on the relations between ASEAN und the EU with focus on different fields such as security cooperation and impacts of globalization on ASEAN and the EU.
Training Camp for Village Youth Councils
Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in collaboration with Population and Community Development Association (PDA) is organizing a training camp for members of village youth councils from 13 – 17 October 2008 in Pattaya. This training activity shall gather representatives of 7 village youth councils to discuss about the role of the youth in promoting democracy at local level. The camp shall also contribute to elaboration of an action plan and coordination of activities.
Consultation programme
Prof. Dr. Rudolf Dolzer in Bangkok
During his consultation programme, Prof Dr Rudolf Dolzer, Director of the Institute for International Law, University of Bonn, has met the President of the Supreme Administrative Court, Judges of the Constitutional Court and legal experts. Topics of the discussions were the role and function of the courts according to the 2007 Constitution as well as confidence building in the public and methods to communicate court rulings.

Analysis of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand 2007
Panel discussion on the results of the research study “Analysis of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand 2007”. This research study commissioned by the KAS shall provide a forum for members of parliament and senators to discuss the issues of the constitutional amendment which is currently in the debate in Thailand.
