KAS supports EU-workshops at Czech schools

With the assistance of the government of the Czech Republic the Centre for European Studies (CES) of the business school and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung have prepared a project for the modernization and improvement of classes treating EU topics. The new publications and teaching resources should give a better understanding of the EU to the prospective Czech high school teachers. This project facilitates the preparation.

New publication to the Czech Council Presidency

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the International Institute for Political Science of the University of Brno (IIPS) have published a book to the Czech Council Presidency. Dr. Petr Kaniok addresses the main functions of the council presidency, their evaluation and what they have contributed to the European integration. 1st Newsletter to the Czech Council Presidency

The way is not long anymore: The Czech Republic is just only a few weeks away from the beginning of the presidency of the Council of the European Union. France will pass the chairmanship on to Prague on January 1st 2009. The KAS will publish regurlarly a newsletter with information about dates, current developments of the Czech domestic and foreign policy and further knowledge during the next months. "The financial crisis will affect all of us."

The leading financial expert and former candidate of the presidency, Prof. Dr. Jan Svejnar spoke at an event of the CKA and KAS to the financial crisis yesterday. Therein, Dr. Svejnar emphrasized that such a worldwide crisis could also include the Czech Republic. The Euro could help the country to provide stability, together with the other EU states. Czechia would already be Euro-ready for a long time. For certain, the Czech presidency will be dominated by the financial crisis.

Vaclav Klaus Gives up His Post of the Honorary Chairman of "His" ODS

Last weekend, Prime Minister Topolanek was relected as party chairman on the ODS party congress in Prague. Thus, he defeated his challenger and Lord Mayor of Prague, Pavel Bem. Meanwhile, President Vaclav Klaus lay down his office as honorary chairman of the ODS and quitted the party, which was founded by himself 18 years ago. Court says the Lisbon Treaty is compatible with Czech law

The Czech constitutional court today rejected unanimously the complaint of the ODS senate parliamentary group against the Lisbon contract. The way is free now for the parliament to proceed with the process of ratification. You will find a detailed report to the topic under "publications".

Lexicon of the Social Market Economy

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung enabled the publication of a czech version of the lexicon of the social market economy written by Rolf H. Hasse, Hermann Schneider and Klaus Weigelt. The book serves as a dispersion and introduction in the topic and the concept of the social market economy. Therefor, our foundation hands the book out to organisations, schools or universities.

Regional and Senate Elections in the Czech Republic

The czech regional and senate elections ( 17.-18. october 2008) closed with interessing and suprising results. The social democrats (CSSD) won in nearly every region with vast majority.
