KAS-UMU Scholarship Programme

Starting in 2001, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) introduced a scholarship programme, through which talented young scholars have been enabled to pursue degrees in higher education at the Department of Development Studies and, since 2004 at the newly established Department of Good Governance and Peace Studies. The aim of the programme is to to enable future leaders to attain higher qualifications in the areas of governance, human rights, and democracy promotion to become drivers for positive change in their communities and their country. During the course of the programme many students from Uganda, and more recently also from South Sudan, have been able to benefit from the support given by KAS and are gradually developing a strong alumni network.

The scholarships target young promising future leaders with a proven track record of academic excellence as well as an encouraging history of social or political engagement. The programme combines the expertise of UMU in providing high quality education with a value based background and KAS’ goal to enhance understanding of democracy and respect for human rights.
