The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Announces the KAS Energy Security Fellowship

"Europe in a Suitcase"

First Junior Team of 2012 finishes Dialogue Tour through central Ukraine

The first Junior Team of "Europe in a Suitcase" 2012 travelled through central Ukraine from April 16-20 and stopped in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytski, Cherkassy, Smila and Kirovograd. Part of the dialogue tour were meetings with students and pupils of the region and a visit of the German-Polish-Ukrainian Youth Forum in Vinnytsia, where the Junior Team - consisting of Julia Michalsky, Rahel Zibner, Anna Rozhniatovska, Oleksiy Bordjuk, Malte Koppe and Adam Gniazdowski -conducted a workshop about the EU.

"Be Active in Europe"

German-Polish-Ukrainian Youth Forum in Vinnytsia

Young people from Germany, Poland and Ukraine gathered in the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia last weekend to discuss the future of Europe. The slogan of the event was "Be Active in Europe!" and accordingly, a lot of different topics where touched. Political participation of young people in all three countries was one of them, the European perspective of Ukraine, the importance of creating a European culture of remembering the past and global challenges like climate change were others.

Youth Forum in Vinnytsia on April 20-22, 2012

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, the German Embassy in Ukraine, the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation and Petro Poroshenko Foundation from Ukraine organise an international Youth Forum in Vinnytsia on April 20-22, 2012. Young representatives from politics and civil society from Ukraine, Germany and Poland will discuss topics as the European perspective of Ukraine, climate change or energy policy. Young people aged between 18 and 25 from the three countries are invited to apply. more…

Remembering for the Future

Collective memory can be used like Lego bricks - it may be construed, deconstructed and reconstructed. Therefore it is crucial that people pay attention to how they deal with their collective memory. One of the referees gave this good advice to the around 30 young participants of the seminar sequence Remembering for the Future. They came to Kharkiv from February, 3-5 in order to discuss different aspects of how to cope with the past.

Young Union of Germany protests against political justice in Ukraine

Members of the Young Union of Germany ("Junge Union Deutschlands") and its federal chairman Philip Missfelder MP protested against political justice, arbitrariness and authoritarian rule in Ukraine in front of the Ukrainian embassy in Berlin. They called for an end to prosecution of the opposition and for the release of former Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko. In cooperation with KAS, "Junge Union Deutschlands" has been supporting democratic youth organisations in Ukraine for a long time.

Interactive Seminar Sequence

Clear values and political ideologies are important to solve social problems successfully

More than 70 participants of the Higher School of Politics attended a seminar about core values and political ideologies in February 2012. Discussions, working groups and the simulation of a parliamentary debate helped the future politicians to extend their knowledge about this topic. Besides getting acquainted with political ideas of Plato, Locke and Kant, part of the seminar programme was also the comparison of economic and social policies from the perspective of modern political ideologies.

Retrospective 2011

The year 2011 was once again a very eventful year for the KAS office in Ukraine. One important highlight was the visit of EPP President Wilfried Martens, who came to visit Kiev in September. Additionally, the successful trinational dialogue journey "Europe in a Suitcase" as well as the seminar sequences "Remembering for the Future" and "Higher School of Politics" were continued.
