Ukraine in the World

On March 31, KAS presented its newest publication „Ukraine in the World“ in Kyiv. This bilingual manual (English/Ukrainian) contains commented statistics from the sphere of economy, politics, society, public health and education. To make it easier for the readers to understand, the statistics are accompanied by short comments and explications. Every year a new edition containing up-to-date information will be published. The handbook is available for free at the KAS.

Interactive Seminar

„Ideologies are Instruments“

„Ideologies are instruments which can be helpful to systematically solve current political problems“ This result was reached by the participants of the School of Politics held from March 26-29 in Donezk. To end their 3-day-seminar the participants created and presented party programmes which tackled the problems of a fictional country in the field of education, economic integration and migration. By doing this they learned about current political ideologies.

Training for journalists

A better understanding of EU-Ukrainian relations

On March 23-24, journalists from the south-eastern region of Ukraine took part in a workshop about press coverage of EU-related stories. It was organised by the KAS and the Academy of the Ukrainian Press in Mariupol on the shore of the Sea of Azov. The journalists were confronted with common mistakes and problems of the Ukrainian press coverage and they talked about possible causes. The workshop gives journalists background knowledge and helpful advise for their daily use.

Which ideologies and basic values for Ukraine?

From March 19-21, KAS and the young Batkiwschtschyna organised a kick-off seminar to the School of Politics 2010. 36 junior politicians from central Ukraine and Kyiv with the help of discussions, role plays and groupwork looked into classic political thought, current political ideologies and value-based solutions to problems. The interactive and didactically newly created form of the seminar was greatly appreciated by the participants.

Health of Civil Society – Seminar about basic values with the Klitschko Brothers Foundation

On March 2, Vitali Klitschko and Nico Lange with participants of the seminar „Health of Civil Society“ talked about ideas on how to improve the living together of society in Ukraine. 50 prize winners of an essay contest organised by the KAS and the Klitschko Brothers Foundation participated in the seminar. During the week-long study programme these young Ukrainians coming from all the regions of the country further developed their ideas into projects.

The KAS awards scholarships for studying in Germany

Do you want to obtain an academic degree in Germany? Do you plan to do your postgraduate studies in Germany? Are you willing to work hard? Are you interested in social and political areas and have you demonstrated a comittment to these? The KONRAD-ADENAUER-STIFTUNG (KAS) SPONSORS STUDIES at universities and institutions of higher education in Germany. Thanks to these scholarships students get the opportunity to earn a university or doctoral degree or to expand their professional expertise.

Dialogue Tour 2010

Fundamental values

In a workshop organised by the KAS 25 young politicians from the youth organisation Batkyvshtshyna Moloda looked for value-centered orientation in order to reshape Ukrainian politics. The participants remarked that a change of values is essential for solving many of the social and political problems in Ukraine. They also developed ideas on how to promote a change of values in their own surroundings.

Interested in Europe? The project “Europe in a suitcase” for you!

KAS Ukraine, the Robert Bosch Foundation, the European Academy Berlin and the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation organize an events series named “Europe in a suitcase“. The project is supposed to intensify the discussion about Europe in the Ukrainian regions. The aim in 2010 is to elate committed young Ukrainians for the dialogue. Thus we are looking for young people aged 20-30 who want to participate together with Polish and German partners in discussions about Europe.

Essay contest

Public health

On January 25 the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Klitschko Brothers Foundation announced the winners of the nationwide essay contest on the topic “Public health”. Fifty competitors were invited to attend a seminar where their ideas will be developed into concrete projects.

Ukrainian presidential elections

Battle between Yanukovich and Tymoshenko

Opposition leader Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoschenko prevailed in the first round of the Ukrainian presidential elections on January 17, and they will compete with each other in the runoff election on February 7. According to 90 percent of the votes counted so far Yanukovych reached more than 35% of the votes, Tymoschenko reached about 25%, followed by Serhij Tihipko with 13% and Arsenij Yatsenyuk with 7%.
