Powering 21st Century Cities with the Internet of Things

A panel discussion with keynote speaker Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA)

On Wednesday May 20, 2015 the Microsoft Innovation and Policy Center held a panel discussion on the topic of powering 21st century cities with the internet of things (IoT). They focused on using data collected by the IoT to solve problems that modern cities face, and the roles that various stakeholders play in the innovation, procurement, and implementation of both products and policy. Keynote Speaker Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) warned that Government would inhibit innovation if it misunderstands the technology, legislates beyond what is necessary, and gets in the way. more…

The first in a series on Next Generation Dialogue on Industry and Defense, this event focused on how increased globalization of the defense industry is affecting and interacting with cultures of national security within government and the military. The aim of The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) series is to provide a location for dialogue on the relationship between industry and defense, with a goal of providing a framework for policy. PRESIDENTS OF THE GERMAN AND AMERICAN TRADE UNIONS OFFER THEIR VIEWS ON CURRENT TRADE NEGOTIATIONS

As the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) enters its ninth round of negotiations in New York on April 20th, 2015, concerns on both sides of the Atlantic remain about the impact the final treaty will have on production standards, consumer protection, and job security. Labor organizations remain actively engaged in the TTIP process. Labor groups’ concerns and suggestions for TTIP were the topic of discussion at an event hosted by the German Marshal Fund of the United States and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. more…
