From 13-17 August the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and KAS will host the workshop “Course Building: Multilateral Diplomacy”. Twelve lecturers from national universities will take part in learning to design a new course using methodology and content

Vietnamese Lecturers take on skills to build course on multilateral diplomacy

In a DAV and KAS cooperation, Vietnamese lecturers developed skills to build an academic course on multilateral diplomacy and to advance their teaching methods. During the workshop, topics such as theories of international relations and the practice of big and middle powers were given attention.

In cooperation with the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, the 9th China Talk hosted Prof. Wang Lee-Rong, research fellow at Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research. She provided an analysis of China’s economic policies and discussed the Belt-Road-Initiative and the US trade war.

Enhancing citizens' participation in policy making processes in East Asia

International and Vietnamese experts gather in Hanoi for 1.5 days to discuss the obstacles preventing democracy though it is constitutionalised. Also high on the agenda is how to improve grassroots democracy in East Asian countries. The conference is coorganised by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and KAS Vietnam.

On 6th June, legal experts and representatives from Hanoi, Hue City and HCMC engaged in a lively debate on citizens’ participation in the management of state and society. Forms of participation discussed were the right to stand for election, referendum, vote, and participation through social organisations.

KAS supports training for future journalist trainers

KAS and the Vietnam Journalists Association co-organised a 3-day workshop for 25 reporters to train them as journalist trainers. The Swedish lecturer Marie Kronmarker encouraged the participants to draw wheels of qualities that trainers can use to define their strengths and weaknesses and, as the result, to map out appropriate methods of training.
