KAS contributes to gender equality and women empowerment

In spite of the law, there are still legal regulations in practice which discriminate women or lack gender equality. More guidance is needed for administrations to promote gender equality in legal documents. Legislation has to promote “general welfare” in the interests of both women and men. KAS Vietnam organized with the Ministry of Justice a seminar to draft the Circular needed for efficient implementation of the Law on Gender Equality. The circular will be promulgated this September.

Rule of Law

Complaints - constitutional right but where to file?

Improving the complaint system for Vietnamese citizens on all administrative levels is the objective of this and future seminars in cooperation with the Government Inspectorate Research Centre. Participants came from all areas concerned: National Assembly, Office of the Government, Fatherland Front and most importantly, provincial and local authorities. As well noted in the media, we aim to turn the ineffective authority jungle into clear, responsive complaint structures accessible by everyone.

Local Governance

Innovative project kicks off

For the first time the EU directly awards a grant to a local government association. The grant supports the project "Strengthening Local Governance for Local Economic Growth in Vietnamese Cities". The project will be implemented by ACVN and KAS for two years. At the signing ceremony EU Ambassador Franz Jessen stated “The EU is pleased to support this innovative project which [...] will generate tangible benefits for Vietnamese business and provide practical policy inputs to the Government”. more…

Interview with Investment Review Vietnam

In honour of the Vietnam Journalists' Day the weekly newspaper Investment Review Vietnam published an interview with KAS Country Representative Rabea Brauer on the issue of economic journalism in Vietnam. KAS is very active in the media sector and seeks to support journalists and media professionals throughout the country. We cooperate with journalist associations, journalism faculties as well as the Ministry of Information & Communication on current and specific thematic issues.

KAS presents its Media Program in FBNC Talkshow

The weekly Talkshow "Vietnam in Focus" of Vietnam's Finance and Business News Channel FNBC hosted KAS Country Representative Rabea Brauer introduce KAS’ support to Vietnamese Journalists. KAS initiated a seminar series on economic reporting with journalist associations and media faculties. In frequent sessions, leading economic journalists portray their work, challenges they face and discuss improvements in the media sector. Economic Journalism: Challenges for the Media

The KAS Office Vietnam organized on 29.05.13 with the Faculty for Journalism & Communication of the Vietnam National University the seminar “Economic Journalism in Vietnam and Germany: How are economic news portrayed by the media?”. Representatives from print, online & broadcast media analysed the development of and the challenges for current economic journalism in both countries. Within its international cooperation work, media development is one of the focal points of the KAS Office Vietnam.

Political Communication

On the 28th of May 2013 the KAS Office in Vietnam organized with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities of Hanoi a discussion round on the topic of “Political Communication: Interaction between governments and citizens”. International experts discussed together with students from the fields of social and political sciences various models of political communication as seen in the age of globalization.

KAS Vietnam together with the Vietnamese Institute of State and Law (ISL) hosted 2 seminars on “Models of Constitutionalism for Vietnam” from 6. to 10. May 2013 in Hanoi and Vung Tao. Media and climate change protection in Vietnam

From the 24th until the 25th of April 2013 the KAS office in Vietnam organized with the Vietnam Journalist Association (VJA) a seminar on how the media covers the question of climate change protection in Vietnam. Media representatives not only discussed the direct effects of climate change on Vietnam, but also analysed how the media can disseminate more information on mechanisms for minimizing, preventing and adapting to the effects of climate change to the public.
