KAS scholarship winners named

Seven applicants have elbowed 23 others to win KAS scholarship 2015. The winners have been named this morning (Oct.22) in Hanoi after three days of interview and eight months of preparations. The scholarship holders will undergo German training courses in Vietnam before they depart for their Master and Ph.D courses in Germany next year. more…

Law on human and citizen rights to be considered

The 10th session of Vietnam's 13rd National Assembly convenes today in Hanoi. During the 31 working days through November 28, the legislators will consider approving 18 laws and 16 resolutions and scrutinise eight draft laws, including those on judicial activities and human and citizen rights. They are set to review the implementation of the 2015 socio-economic development plan and the State budget as well as discuss similar plans for next year. more…

EU willing to support Vietnam to draft the Law on Belief and Religion

About 100 representatives from State agencies and embassies of the EU in Vietnam and religious dignitaries attended a seminar in Ha Noi yesterday to discuss policies ensuring religious freedom in the country. The participants heard that the EU is willing to support Vietnam in drafting the Law on Belief and Religion. Mr.Volker Kauder, parliamentary group leader of the CDU/CSU in the Bundestag met with representatives of different religious groups during his working trip to Vietnam late August. more…

KAS supports Vietnam's efforts to reduce death penalty

The 13th World Day Against the Death Penalty is raising awareness around the application of the death penalty for drug-related offences. Vietnamese lawmakers are moving to the mainstream by proposing to keep death sentences for drug traders and apply life imprisonment on those transporting and storing drug. Till now, drug crime is among the illegal activities receiving the most death penalties in Vietnam. KAS sponsored the Ministry of Justice's conference on Death Penalty Reduction last June. more…

Outgoing Country Representative Rabea Brauer met with Foreign Vice Minister Xuan Hung, the newly appointed Ambassador to Germany. Inspite of the already good relations between KAS and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both are looking forward to deepen their friendship in Berlin from January 2016 onwards.

USSH receive Labour Order, 1st class

USSH celebrates 70th anniversary and receives Labour Order

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) celebrated its 70th anniversary in Hanoi on Oct.6 and received the Labour Order, the 1st class. As the country's leading education institution and research centre of social sciences and humanities, the USSH has trained more than 50,000 undergraduates, and thousands of post grads and Ph.D. students. The USSH has been KAS's reliable partner for years. On this occasion, KAS likes to send best wishes to the university.

Policy implications for Vietnam's economic reform

About 80 students and researchers attended a conference on economic adjustment after the 2008 financial crisis yesterday. Dr. Sanjay Kalra from IMF Washington reviewed the global financial crisis and its lessons. Meanwhile, Prof. Kang-Kook Lee and Assist. Prof. Hideyuki Miura from Japan's Ritsumeikan and Kyorin universities respectively lectured on economic and social impacts of Abenomics. Together with Vietnamese experts the three scholars gave recommendations to economic reform in Vietnam.

Taiwan expert discuss at the seminar

China's domestic and foreign policies analysed

Scholars put their heads together yesterday in Hanoi to discuss the domestic and foreign policy of China. The discussion focused on the influences of domestic politics on the country's foreign policies. The seminar was included in talk series carried out by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, under the sponsorship of KAS Vietnam.
