Director of Rule of Law Programme Asia visits Vietnam

The Rule of Law Programme Asia's Director Gisela Elsner paid a working visit to Vietnam on Nov.27. She had talks with representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Institute of State and Law, the People's Supreme Court, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and the Vietnam Lawyers Association. Ms. Elsner's visit took place when Vietnam's parliament passed the amended Civil Procedure Code which highlights the defendants' rights to legal assistance.

Vietnamese and International Scholars discussed developments in the South China Sea

Ten renowned Vietnamese and prominent international scholars looked at the developments in the region concerning the South China Sea and China's new foreign policies at a conference co-organized by KAS and the USSH on Nov.26-27 at Hilton Hotel Hanoi. The sessions included updates from Naval Officers and Defense Strategists as well as opinions and political insights from the Philippines, Japan, US, India and China. more…

Seminar “China’s Domestic and Foreign Policies” drew large attention

Prof. David Arase from the Johns Hopkins University Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies presented the thesis “China’s domestic policy since China’s 18 Communist Party Congress and its impacts on China’s foreign policy” at the seminar on "China's Domestic and Foreign Policies". There were two respondents, Mr. Nguyen Tam Chien a former vice minister for foreign affairs and Mr. Tran Duc Mau a former ambassador to Germany. more…

USSH's International Studies Faculty - 20th anniversary

USSH's International Studies Faculty celebrates 20th anniversary

On 7 November USSH's Faculty of International Studies (FIS) celebrated its 20th anniversary. The faculty has been KAS's trustworthy partner over the years. In 2015, KAS has supported the faculty to successfully organize international conferences on ASEAN communities and Economic Adjustment after the 2008 Economic Crisis.

KAS scholarship winners named

Seven applicants have elbowed 23 others to win KAS scholarship 2015. The winners have been named this morning (Oct.22) in Hanoi after three days of interview and eight months of preparations. The scholarship holders will undergo German training courses in Vietnam before they depart for their Master and Ph.D courses in Germany next year. more…

KAS Country Representative Rabea Brauer made a congratulatory speech at the 25th anniversary of the USSH's Faculty of Journalism and Communication this morning (Oct.22). Speaking at the ceremony, which gathered hundreds of students and representatives of major media institutions, Ms. Brauer emphasized the important role of free journalism in any country. more…

Law on human and citizen rights to be considered

The 10th session of Vietnam's 13rd National Assembly convenes today in Hanoi. During the 31 working days through November 28, the legislators will consider approving 18 laws and 16 resolutions and scrutinise eight draft laws, including those on judicial activities and human and citizen rights. They are set to review the implementation of the 2015 socio-economic development plan and the State budget as well as discuss similar plans for next year. more…

EU willing to support Vietnam to draft the Law on Belief and Religion

About 100 representatives from State agencies and embassies of the EU in Vietnam and religious dignitaries attended a seminar in Ha Noi yesterday to discuss policies ensuring religious freedom in the country. The participants heard that the EU is willing to support Vietnam in drafting the Law on Belief and Religion. Mr.Volker Kauder, parliamentary group leader of the CDU/CSU in the Bundestag met with representatives of different religious groups during his working trip to Vietnam late August. more…

KAS supports Vietnam's efforts to reduce death penalty

The 13th World Day Against the Death Penalty is raising awareness around the application of the death penalty for drug-related offences. Vietnamese lawmakers are moving to the mainstream by proposing to keep death sentences for drug traders and apply life imprisonment on those transporting and storing drug. Till now, drug crime is among the illegal activities receiving the most death penalties in Vietnam. KAS sponsored the Ministry of Justice's conference on Death Penalty Reduction last June. more…

The relationship between KAS-MoFA intensified

Outgoing Country Representative Rabea Brauer met with Foreign Vice Minister Xuan Hung, the newly appointed Ambassador to Germany. Inspite of the already good relations between KAS and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both are looking forward to deepen their friendship in Berlin from January 2016 onwards.
