As the State of Israel is about to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its foundation, dire headlines are coming from Gaza, where the Palestinians' "March of Return" marks the occasion of 70 years after the Nakba, or catastrophe. Dozens have recently died during mass protests at the border, whereas the economic and humanitarian situation is further deteriorating. Palestinian political institutions are deadlocked and the West Bank and Gaza still divided. Meanwhile, US-President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israeli capital and to move the embassy there has further alienated Palestinians.

What do Palestinians, in particular the younger generation, think about their situation and their leadership? How do they see peace prospects with Israel and would they be ready for a “big deal”-initiative that might come from Washington? Which policy options for a sustainable conflict resolution are still on the table and should be encouraged by the international community?

To discuss these questions, we cordially invite you to an expert roundtable with Dr. Khalil Shikaki, Director of the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) in Ramallah and Professor of Political Science.

The discussion will be held in English. Breakfast will be served.
