Ahead of the first parliamentary elections held in Lebanon in nine years on May 6th 2018, drastic changes to the political landscape can be observed on local and regional levels. Former alliances and rivalries that defined Lebanese politics in 2009 have partly been overcome and new alliances have emerged in light of the upcoming elections. Many of the parties have changed their internal structures, positions, representations, and decision-making mechanisms.
The paper includes a detailed survey of Lebanese parties, an analysis of the electoral districts, the distribution of the parties in the 2005 and 2009 elections, and an outlook for the upcoming elections.
