Student Debate Competition

"It is more than debating, we came here to debate, then I realize that in this case you imply your personality, and you learn to bring out what you really want to bring out" Together with the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung, ACFODE took the debate competition to Mbarara, Gulu and Mbale respectively. The students who got the opportunity to be trained by the Ugandan Debate Society (UDS) were tasked to debate on four issues namely; Gender, Youth Participation, Governance and Sexual Harassment.

Straddling Between Society and State in the Middle East

KAS AND THE BROOKINGS DOHA CENTER HOLD A WORKSHOP ON NON-STATE ACTORS AND THE SEARCH FOR EQUILIBRIUM IN IRAQ AND SYRIA

On October 8th and 9th, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the Brookings Doha Center organized a workshop in order to better understand the evolvement of non-state actors, learn how competing power dynamics impact life on the ground, and discuss how both politics and civil society can cope with the resulting challenges to security and social cohesion in the Middle East. Taking place under Chatham-House rules, the workshop was attended by officials and civil society representatives from various Middle Eastern countries and researchers from regional, European and American think tanks.

Orientation training workshop for traditional leaders in Mzimba on the new land law in Malawi

The orientation training workshops for traditional leaders in Malawi are aimed at capacitating traditional authorities to consider the codified law and strengthen the position of women in issues of land use and land ownership. The workshops are intended to cover the developments of the land law reform process in Malawi and specific legislations in the new land law that support and protect women’s land ownership rights.

In cooperation with the Committee for Women Political Empowerment, Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation organized the public workshop “Barriers facing women participation in politics – review of 2018 elections”. The event took place on 10th October 2018 under the participation of Princess Hayat Wahab Arslan, President of the Committee for Women Political Empowerment and HE Jean Oghassabian, Lebanese Minister for Women Affairs as well as other speakers and guests from politics, media, academia and security forces.

„Uganda‘s GDP is growing, but it is not leading to a structural transformation in society. Most of Uganda‘s citizens are still employed by the agriculture business,“ explained Max Walter, Executive Director of Center for Development Alternatives (CDA) during a press briefing on the Uganda’s economic transformation on October 10th in Kampala.
