Elections as well as public information flows can be subject to manipulation. The concern that voting machines can be hacked or that voter registration databases can be tampered has been around for years but after the latest elections in the U.S. and in France we must state that cyberattacks also play a major role in political influencing.

Climate change and the security sector in South Asia

Implications for armed forces, politics and society

Climate change has multifold impacts on the security situation in South Asia. Increasing migration flows and competition for the access to dwindling resources are stressing political relations between countries of the SAARC region. Whilst these issues are rarely discussed in Europe, many decision makers in Asia are well aware of the manifold dimensions and impacts of topic. In a workshop, high-ranking representatives from the armed forces, diplomacy, academia, media and NGOs talked about the implications of climate change for the security in South Asia and discussed concrete solutions.

On November 28, 2017 KAS' Regional Programme Asia and the Pacific had the honour of welcoming Prof. Norbert Lammert as the keynote speaker on the topic "Germany and Europe in a New Era of Global Challenges". The following quotation by Konrad Adenauer constituted the core message of his lecture: "European unity used to be the dream of a few. It became the hope of many. Today it is a prerequisite for all."
