The global protest and the Covid-19 pandemic make it obvious that it is more than ever necessary to give everyone on the planet an equal representation on the biggest problems facing humankind. Millions of citizens in dozens of countries took to the streets to protest a host of grievances, ranging from higher consumer prices to government corruption and social inequality. 

Although the deadly global spread of the coronavirus this year halted most of the street protests, at least temporarily, as governments enforced social distancing restrictions in hopes of preventing further infections and perhaps in some cases in hopes of breaking the protests momentum. Many movements took their campaigns online since social media enables protesters to organize effectively and promote their causes widely, but how successfully is still uncertain.

In order to assess the scale & impact of global protest movements from Latin America to Asia, young scholars from different educational institutes and universities in Bangalore, Chennai and Pondicherry have come up with this issue of the NIAS Quarterly on Contemporary World Affairs which is an outcome of the Young-IPRI workshop organised by the International Peace Research Initiative (IPRI) in partnership with the India Office of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). 

Due to ongoing pandemic, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, India in partnership with the International Peace Research Initiative (IPRI)  conducted the report release proceedings of this edition titled "Global Protest Movements" virutally on 2nd December 2020 on Zoom platform. The report release was followed by a panel discussion by:

who further shared their views on this matter & discussed various aspects of the Global Protest Movements covered under the report.
