“Quo vadis, Europe? Questions of Identity, Sovereignty and Responsibility”

As the longest serving member of the European Parliament (EP) for almost 40 years, Elmar Brok is widely credited for his significant contributions to EU foreign policy (Head of European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs for 13 years) and constitutional matters. Following his retirement from Parliament in June this year, Mr Brok was appointed Special Adviser to the outgoing EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on relations with Ukraine.

Energiestrategien: Deutschland, Neuseeland & Australien im Vergleich

Das KAS Regionalprogramm Australien und Pazifik hat sein zweites Energiepolitisches Dialogprogramm auch in diesem Jahr wieder in Kooperation mit dem European Centre for Energy and Resources Security (EUCERS) (welches umbenannt wird zu European Centre for Climate and Energy Security) geplant. Das Dialogprogramm wird vom 7. bis zum 11. Oktober in Neuseeland und Australien stattfinden. Ziel des Dialogs ist es, politische Entscheidungsträger, Experten und Industrievertreter aus Australien, Deutschland und Neuseeland an einen Tisch zu bringen, wo sie aktuell energiepolitische Herausforderungen und mögliche Lösungen diskutieren können.

Pacific Update, Suva

Das Development Policy Centre der Australian National University wird sein Pacific Update auch dieses Jahr wieder mit der Unterstützung des KAS Regionalprogramms Australien und Pazifik durchführen.

Das themenübergreifende Konferenz findet vom 3. bis zum 5. Juli 2019 an der University of the South Pacific in Suva/Fidschi statt.

Otago Foreign Policy School, Dunedin

Das KAS Regionalprogramm Australien und Pazifik freut sich, auch in diesem Jahr wieder die Foreign Policy School der University of Otago in Neuseeland unterstützen zu dürfen.

Die Konferenz bietet ein Forum zur Diskussion von aktuellen Herausforderungen und möglichen politischen Lösungen.

2. Australia-Germany 1.5 Track Cybersecurity Dialogue, Berlin und Brüssel

Die Cybersicherheit ist weltweit zur Priorität geworden und diesbezügliche Diskussionen zwischen Wertepartnern sind wichtig, um die wirtschaftliche und innere Sicherheit der Bürger zu gewährleisten. Nach dem Erfolg unseres ersten Australia-Germany Cybersecurity Dialoges 2018 in Canberra, Australien wird der diesjährige Dialog mit einer australischen Expertendelegation in Berlin und Brüssel stattfinden.

IALS Symposium

“Climate change and technological developments are presenting challenges to settled principles of property law both personal/moveable and real/immoveable.” Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Australia) had the pleasure to support the International Association for Legal Sciences’ (IALS) Symposium this year. Established in 1950 and operating under the auspices of UNESCO and of the International Science Council, IALS aims to promote the development of legal science throughout the world by using, in particular, the comparative method.

Samoa (post-Cotonou) Partnership Agreement

Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Australia) had the pleasure to witness as an observer the Samoa (post-Cotonou) Agreement signing ceremony held on 15 November in Apia. The Agreement serves as an overarching legal framework for the European Union’s (EU) relations with the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) for the next twenty years.

KAS Australia and the Pacific, in cooperation with the KAS offices in Brussels and Berlin, was pleased to be holding its 9th KAS Australia-Europe Counter-Terrorism Dialogue in October this year.

2nd KAS Australia and the Pacific Security Conference

'Zeitenwende' and Beyond

After a successful first iteration in 2022, we held the 2nd KAS Australia Security Conference on German-Indo-Pacific common security concerns on 12 and 13 September. The aim is to continue to grow the conference and establish it as an important platform for multilateral exchange on all matters defence, security and foreign policy. This year, KAS Australia and the Pacific was supported by the National Security College and the Australian Institute of International Affairs.

5th PIURN Conference

This year KAS Australia has for the first time supported the Pacific Islands Universities Research Network’s (PIURN) bi-annual conference. The 5th PIURN Annual Conference was held from 4 to 6 July 2023 in the Cook Islands.

9th ICON-S Annual Conference

Islands and Oceans: Public Law in a Plural World

For the first time since its inception, the ICON-S Annual Meeting took place in Oceania. The International Society of Public Law is an international learned society with members from all around the globe.

6th Konrad Adenauer Lecture

‘Security Issues for the Pacific Region’

KAS Australia and the Pacific and the ANU Centre for European Studies were delighted to hold the 6th KAS Lecture in Canberra in June. This year's keynote was kindly delivered by former President of the Republic of Kiribati and advocate for climate action and ocean conservation H.E. Anote Tong, with concluding remarks provided by the German Special Envoy for the Pacific Islands States, H.E. Beate Grzeski.

Pacific Update

2023

The Pacific Update, an annual conference dubbed the premier forum for the discussion of matters of concern to the Pacific region, has taken place again with KAS Australia’s support. Co-organised by the Centre for Development Policy (Devpol) of the Australian National University (ANU) and the School of Economics of the University of the South Pacific (USP), the event was held from 13 to 15 June in the capital of Fiji.
