Slobodna Dalmacija is a Split-based daily newspaper which was established in 1943. In communist times, it was one of the most read newspapers in former Yugoslavia. It is owned by Hanza Media (formerly Europapress Holding), a company which also owns Jutarnji list.

Večernji list was founded in 1957 by the Croatian state-owned daily newspaper Vjesnik. In 1990 Večernji list became independent. Since 2000 the owner of Večernji list is the Styria Media Group AG.
