What is the memory of Soviet repressions after the quarter of a century? This and many other questions were discussed by experts from Ukraine, Lithuania, Germany, Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, Belarus and Russia during the four-day workshop in Vilnius.

The main aim of the event was to study the experience of each member country, as well as during the debate to find the most interesting ideas about how the topic of Soviet repressions can remind the world about the inadmissibility of the totalitarian regime. That is why it was important to get acquainted with already established museum institutions, organizations and projects, discuss the prospects of further cooperation, explore in which areas projects are already initiated, where co-operation should be more advanced and what specific proposals can be submitted to the discussion.

Representatives from each country shared their own achievements and experiences on the commemoration of the victims of Soviet repressions. They pointed out the problems of overcoming the consequences of the Soviet totalitarian past which today are present in Eastern Europe and Russia. Also, the participants of workshop have determined how the communist totalitarian system impacted on the modern political life in post-Soviet societies.

Besides presentations and active discussions, the participants of the workshop had a guided walking tour to places related to the memory of the victims of the Soviet regime, visited the Genocide and Resistance Research Center of Lithuania, the Museum of Genocide Victims and the Memorial Complex of the Tuskulenai Peace Park.
