The decentralization of our energy landscape – Economic benefits and regulatory challenges - Europabüro Brüssel
Workshop
Details
Global energy consumption has grown steadily over the past century, driven by population and economic growth. However, the way our energy needs are being met is changing rapidly due to renewable energy, digital technologies as well as new policy goals to reduce emissions and extend energy access. The traditional centralized model of linear power generation and delivery through limited market conditions is giving way to a more diverse, dynamic and complex system with multiple actors and multilayered energy, information and money flows. After a short presentation of the joined Arup and Siemens research project on distributed energy systems our panelists will analyze these substantial changes and discuss how the EU should act in this new era.
