Think Digital!

Is the omnibus on track for more digital sovereignty?

The European Offices of Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and ZVEI, German Electro and Digital Industry Association, are delighted to invite you to the next edition of Think Digital!.   In the last few years, digital technologies have evolved rapidly: Despite the fact that the EU tries to keep up the pace with new rules on privacy, data governance, cybersecurity and AI, its digital rulebook remains still somewhat scattered and fragmented. Published in November 2025, the Digital Omnibus is the first major step toward bringing more clarity, consistency, and simplicity – yet can it keep this promise in view of the EU’s growing focus on digital sovereignty? We are delighted to host this edition with our patron, Axel Voss, Member of the European Parliament.  If you would like to attend the event please register via this link until Thursday, 8 January (18:00) – limited seats available.

30 in 2030? – Montenegro’s EU accession in sight: current state of play and the way forward

High-Level Lunch with Minister of European Affairs of Montenegro Maida Gorčević

2025 has shown that enlargement is back on the EU agenda, with several candidate countries accelerating reforms and the EU Commission matching their efforts with renewed vigor. Montenegro has long been the frontrunner among the aspirants, having opened all negotiation chapters. During the Intergovernmental Conference (IGC) on 16th December 2025, the country is expected to provisionally close a further five chapters, raising the total to 12. Thus, the country is well on the way to meet the government’s target of closing all remaining chapters by 2026 and joining the EU by 2028. In parallel, the discussion has become increasingly entangled with questions of EU internal reform and the demand for safeguards preventing negative effects on the EU in case of backsliding of new member states. We will discuss these and other related issues during a seated lunch jointly organized with the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) at the Europe Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Avenue de l’Yser 11, 1040 Brussels) on Tuesday, 16th December 2025, 13:00 – 15:00h.

Think Digital!

Taking stock of simplification in EU digital policy

The European Offices of Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and ZVEI, German Electro and Digital Industry Association, are delighted to invite you to the next edition of Think Digital!. Europe’s digital policy landscape has undergone a rapid transformation in recent years, with sweeping regulations on privacy, cybersecurity, data governance, and artificial intelligence. Yet despite these efforts, the digital rulebook remains fragmented and incoherent. The goal is clear: Europe must become sovereign, secure and competitive in the digital sphere. Hosting a high-level panel, we would like to take stock of 2025 as a year of a shift towards simplification in EU policy. Are these efforts enough to meet the challenge of making Europe’s digital policy competition – and innovation friendly?
