After Member States called for "a paradigm shift" and new innovative ways in migration policy to ensure asylum seekers whose applications have been rejected are effectively and speedily returned, the Commission answered this call by proposing a new regulation on 11 March 2025 replacing the current return directive. It is now upon the European Parliament and the Council to agree to the proposal.

In this online format, we are organising discussions with the Director of a different KAS Office on a regular basis, in which the latest developments in the respective country or region as well as the status quo of the relations with the European Union are discussed. The next session will focus on the US Presidential Elections, scheduled for the the 5th of November, and its implications for the future of the transatlantic relationship.
