TRAINING COURSE FOR TRADITIONAL WOMEN LEADERS ON LOCAL GOVERNANCE AND NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

The Centre for Indigenous Knowledge and Organisational Development (CIKOD), in collaboration with the University for Development Studies (UDS) and with sponsorship from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) are organising a training course on Local Governance and Natural Resource Management for selected Traditional Women Leaders drawn from Northern Ghana in August 2008. This course is part of the capacity building efforts by KAS and CIKOD for the Traditional Women Leaders as active partners in facilitating development in their respective areas.

It is also the first of three modular courses for the Traditional Leaders. The three modular courses are:

  • Local Governance and Natural Resource Management
  • Leadership, Gender And Conflict Management.
  • Community Development and Project Management
Goal

To train the traditional women Leaders in Northern Ghana by providing appropriate leadership in Local Government and Natural Resource Management.

The Objectives of the Training Course are:

  1. Strengthen the leadership and organizational capacity of traditional leaders to contribute to good governance and community development.
  2. Strengthen the role of Traditional Leaders in enhancing accountability in Natural Resource Management among Traditional Authorities and government institutions.
  3. Contribute to bridging the gap between traditional and formal governance authorities.
Outputs

By the end of the Course, the participants should be able to:

  1. Describe Ghana’s local government systems.
  2. Develop action plans for making government and Traditional Institutions responsive to the needs of communities.

Duration of the Course: 4 days
