FORUM FOR TRADE AND BUSINESS ASSOCIATIONS

The Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) with the support of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), is organizing a national forum for Trade and Business Associations (TBAs) with the theme,

“Strengthening the capacities of Trade and Business Associations to help in accelerating the growth of private sector”

on February from 13th to 15th February, 2008 at Marigold Lodge, Odeneho Kwadaso, Kumasi at 9:00am.

The forum is designed to:

• Create awareness of the importance of TBAs in a nation’s economic development
• To discuss building the capacities of TBAs to better offer enhanced services to members
• Enhance the role TBAs play in the country’s private sector growth agenda

The focus of the forum will be on making TBAs prominent in the country’s development agenda as the private sector is seen as “the engine of growth” to drive the country towards attaining middle income status. Experts from TBAs in Ghana as well as development institutions like the World Bank will be sharing experiences and knowledge on the theme of the forum.

Two resource persons will be making presentations on the following subject areas:

• Making TBAs viable in the country’s private sector development agenda
• What role can TBAs play in reducing the cost of doing business

These two topics will be the bases for discussion for participants at the forum who be divided into syndicate groups. Recommendations from these discussions will be used to enhance the capacities of these associations. Participants at the forum will be from TBAs, Professional Bodies, Academia, and Policy Makers among others and drawn from the Upper West, Upper East, Northern, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti regions of the country.
