Blue Economy encompasses a wide range of economic activities pertaining to sustainable development of resources and assets in the oceans, related rivers, water bodies and coastal regions – in a manner that ensures equity, inclusion, innovation and modern technology to minimise wastage and optimise resource allocation by applying the well-tested principles of Reduce-Reuse-Recycle.

We believe that investment in Blue Economy sectors offers a strategic opportunity for Indian companies in over 10 sectors through public-private partnerships as well as international collaborations. Blue Economy is also a high priority for Government of India with a budgetary allocation of about Rs. 53,000 crores since 2017for the combined sectors.

The objective of the webcast is to discuss the role of the private sector and public-private partnerships to facilitate inclusive sustainable development of India’s Blue Economy. Fisheries and Aquaculture, Seafood, Marine Products, Marine and Coastal Tourism, Shipping, Ports and Maritime Logistics, Marine Biotechnology, Marine Energy, Marine Mining and Marine Education are some of the important sectors of Blue Economy.  The webcast would give an insight into the traditional well established sectors of Blue Economy for accentuating the scope of Blue Economy in India along with providing an evidence- based assessment of the emerging global and domestic trends for financing sustainable development, including the potential challenges and possible solutions.

The webcast sessions are as under:

Session 1: Leveraging the potential of Traditional Sectors of Blue Economy- opportunities, challenges and recommendations from industry and policy experts

Session 2: Financing Blue Economy – the contours of sustainable finance, the industry perspective and policy imperatives
