Formulating New Approaches to Strenghten Multilateral Trading System

Over the last 75 years, we have benefited from a rules-based multilateral trading system which has contributed to peace, security and stability in the post-war world. The erstwhile GATT, and later the WTO have facilitated the integration of countries in global trade with its consequent benefits in terms of growth and poverty alleviation. However, ever since its inception in 2005, the WTO, which has been the cornerstone of this multilateral rules-based global trading system, has been facing challenges. Today, we are at a make-or-break point as the WTO faces an existential crisis. Its ability to deliver on all three of its key functions, which are: (a) to provide a negotiating forum to liberalise trade and establish new rules; (b) monitor trade policies; (c) resolve disputes among its members are being questioned. The first webinar of the ICRIER-KAS expert webinar series on "Reforming WTO for the 21st Century," tried to address these and many other issues that are confronting the WTO and which require urgent attention and resolution.

Blue Economy- India's Pathway to a Sustainable, Secure and Resilient Economy

The India Office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation together with its partners - National Maritime Foundation , TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute , Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and MMA Chennai - organised a national conference of the Quadrilateral Dialogue Series on Blue Economy- India's Pathway to a Sustainable, Secure and Resilient Economy from 16 to 18 August, which was integrated into a hybrid model. Blue Economy is a vital and broad framework to address economic, social, environmental challenges and opportunities within one umbrella. A series of six diginars were organised to discuss the myriad of issues. This national conference brought together thought leaders, opinion shapers and experts to discuss the observations and recommendations that emerged from all the diginars as well as to deliberate on the other facets of the Blue Economy.

The Future of Drones in India: Threats, Operations & National Capabilities

The concept of drones also called unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) has been transformational in all senses of innovation and warfare. The recent Jammu drone attack has opened the Pandora’s Box in India’s approach towards drones and the future of warfare. A combination of evolutionary and revolutionary approaches are required to meet future threats. Thus, the future of drones in India will play a crucial role in national security. In this regard, Madras Management Association (MMA) in partnership with the India Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and The Peninsula Foundation organised a Panel Discussion on the theme “The Future of Drone in India - Threats, Operations & National Capabilities" from 6.00 to 8.30 pm on Tuesday, 10 August 2021 for the benefit of MMA members, management professionals and national level policy makers.
