A Preliminary Baseline Study on the Concept of Sustainable Economic Development in Kenya, conducted by the Institute for Research and Policy Alternatives (IRPA) from June to September 2017, captures the essence of Kenya’s efforts in tackling poverty and moving towards a sustainable economy which embraces the interdependence of three large comprehensive systems, namely the economy, the society and the environment. The study also offers an analysis of the challenges to sustainable development in Kenya, and offers preliminary recommendations for overcoming the barriers to its attainment.
