Youth and Politics

Spring Academy

How can young people acquire the qualities necessary for political achievement and simultaneously avoid the Scylla and Charybdis of losing youthful character and yielding to conformism?

Details

Habits of political and civic activity should be formed from the young days, and yet it is the youngest demographic group which is the most apolitical. While the political arena lacks such youthful qualities as creativity, resolve, innovation, and idealism, at the same time the Lithuanian political system sometimes seems more and more shut to young people and youth.

How can young people acquire the qualities necessary for meaningful political achievement and simultaneously avoid the Scylla and Charybdis of losing youthful character and yielding to conformism, on the one hand, and introducing juvenile oversimplification, on the other?

This Spring Youth Academy addresses the following issues:

- What is politics?

- Youth and political (civic) values

- The role of age in politics

- Youthful qualities in politics – virtue or detriment?

- Qualities required for a political leader

- The road to politics (analysis of the successful young political leaders’ case-stories)

- Political innovations (new methods of communication and political action, potential future transformation of the democratic model)
