Global Media Forum 2025 – “AI Disinformation & Countermeasures in Europe and Africa"

An interactive workshop providing journalists with knowledge of how to engage with AI and disinformation

From the 7th to 8th of July 2025, KAS Media Africa will convene the Global Media Forum 2025 in Bonn, Germany, dealing with the dangers of disinformation and AI. In the format of an interactive workshop, attendees are offered presentations, best practice examples and exercises. They will leave equipped with practical tools, policy insights, and a roadmap for fostering digital resilience in the age of AI disinformation.

Dialogue Programme to Berlin and Brussels for independent Press Councils from Sub-Saharan Africa

KAS Media Africa aims to strengthen African independent press councils by hosting a dialogue program to share experiences and knowledge from Europe.

The Dialogue Program for Independent Press Councils from Sub-Saharan Africa will take place from the 2nd to 6th of June 2025, in Berlin and Brussels. The program will bring together stakeholders from Africa and Europe to discuss the fight against disinformation and fake news. The program will provide a platform to exchange valuable insights and experiences, building on the recent creation of the Pan-African Network of Independent Media Councils in Africa (NIMCA).

Reporter Slam Africa 2025

The most entertaining live format for journalists is coming to Africa again. Our second edition of the Reporter Slam will take place this year in Lagos, Nigeria.

On 22 May, Lagos, Nigeria, will be the stage for Reporter Slam Africa 2025. Six Journalists from Sub-Saharan Africa will compete in a lively showdown, offering the audience a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their work as journalists. The slammers are challenged to present their stories in a unique and creative way. The journalist whose story appeals the most to the public will be named the Slammer of 2025!

Bringing Journalism to Life: Exploring Truth and Combating Disinformation and AI in Journalism

KAS Media Africa is proud to present the launch of an innovative journalistic comic book “Currents of Truth”, that blends investigative journalism with dynamic storytelling. Written by Ryan Pedro and illustrated by Careshia Esperanza, this graphic novel follows a young journalist’s quest to expose corruption and fight disinformation in an AI-driven world.

Moreover, local news, if presented professionally, can be elevated to national level and sometimes, even make international headlines. Many local journalists struggle daily with breaking international news down to a local level.

Therefore, KAS Media Africa is proud to be a continuing partner of the biggest investigative journalism conference on African soil, the African Investigative Journalism Conference, in its 19th year.

KAS Media Africa Conference on Media and Insurgency Held on the Historical Island of Gorée, Dakar

Senior Media Practitioners Meet to Discuss the Position and Role of the Media in the Conversation about Insurgency

In March 2023, KAS Media returned to Gorée Island to host a conference about the threat of terrorism on the African continent and the role of the fourth estate in covering the apparent increase of insurgency in various regions. 10 senior journalists from countries including Kenya, South Africa, Mali, Senegal and Nigeria gathered to share the experiences of their particular communities and the way in which media covers insurgency.

Preisträger decken mit ihren Reportagen Missstände in Afrika auf

Lokaljournalismus ist für viele afrikanische Medien sehr wichtig. Die Nachrichten aus der unmittelbaren Umgebung schaffen Bindung zwischen Lesern und Hörern und einer Zeitung oder einem Radiosender. Umso erstaunlicher ist, dass viele Lokaljournalisten schlecht bezahlt werden, ihre Arbeit von vielen Verlegern kaum wertgeschätzt wird und sie sich oft Anfeindungen lokaler Würdenträger ausgesetzt sehen, über die sie kritisch berichten.

15 NEWSROOM MANAGERS ATTEND ‘MANAGING CONFLICT IN TODAY’S NEWSROOM’ COURSE IN NAIROBI, KENYA

Newsroom Managers from Across the African Continent Meet to Share Experiences and Gain Insight

In November 2022, KAS Media Africa and the Graduate School of Media and Communications (GSMC) at the Aga Khan University conducted their first conflict management in newsrooms course held in Nairobi, Kenya. 15 Newsroom managers from Zimbabwe, Uganda, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, The Gambia, Rwanda and Malawi, beat out over 150 applicants from the continent to be part of the first cohort of the course.
