Helping Build Peace in Mindanao

A Forum-cum-Workshop

Over 40 members from different NGOs joined a three-day workshop and forum on how to help build peace in Mindanao. The activity was conducted on September 23-25 in Cagayan de Oro City.

On the first day of the events, the organizer gave the participants the opportunity to acquire a deeper understanding of the ongoing conflicts in Mindanao by providing them tools for conflict analysis like timeline and mapping methods.

The second day forum resulted in a fruitful and productive discussion between peace-builders and their partners. The forum focused on the peace processes between the Government of the Philippines (GRP) and the Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa ng Mindanao (RPM-M). Ike delos Reyes, the RPM-M Panel Adviser of the GRP-RPM-M Peace Process, confirmed his commitment to work on peace initiatives. On the last day, the participants ended the workshop by formulating their peace-building strategy.

The activity was organized by the Balay Mindanaw Foundation, Inc., and supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Klaus Preschle, KAF Country Representative to the Philippines, was one of the discussants of the said forum.
