Within Southeast Asia, the ASEAN Charter seeks to institutionalize regionalism, while the forces of environmentalism, economic integration and political-religious conflict underpin the politics of Southeast Asia.

Dr. Norbert Lammert, President of the German Bundestag, will deliver a keynote address.

The geopolitics of East Asia continues to be the preoccupation of policy makers, academics and the general public. Prof Takashi Inoguchi, Prof C Raja Mohan, Prof Yang Jiemian, and Prof Rikki Kersten will speak on the “Strategic Trends in East Asia”.

Speaking on ASEAN and the ASEAN Charter are ASEAN Sec-Gen Mr Ong Keng Yong, ASEAN Sec-Gen Designate Dr Surin Pitsuwan, and Prof Tommy Koh. Prof Koh, who is the Chairman of the High Level Task Force responsible for drafting the Charter, will share an insider’s view. Our Distinguished Luncheon Speaker is Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who will speak on “Reconciling Islamisation with a Democratic Society in Malaysia”.
