Details

In his first two major speeches as Singapore’s third Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong signalled that his government would work towards a more open and inclusive Singapore. His predecessor, Mr Goh Chok Tong, had fourteen years earlier promised to make his government more open and consultative, and to adopt a kinder and gentler style. In the Singapore Forum on Politics 2005, a panel of five speakers will discuss their ideal vision of an open and inclusive Singapore. To what degree can today’s Singapore be described as ‘open’ or ‘inclusive’? How much further would Singapore need to go? How much further can it afford to go? What is the best strategy for turning Singapore into an open and inclusive society? The speakers will attempt to uncover the real factors that have shaped typical answers to these questions.
