Political Parties’ Functions and Organizations in Democratic Societies

As the pandemic continues to constrain international travel, the new batch of young politicians will hold their first training-workshop virtually this coming 11 – 16 April 2021 via Zoom. The new batch, KASYP 12 is composed of 26 fellows representing 12 Asian countries.

Building on the idea behind the Konrad Adenauer School for Young Politicians - Leaders Caucus (KASYP-LC), the Asian Democratic Leaders’ Alliance (ADLA) programme is conceptualised as a ‘network and a platform’ for KASYP alumni to promote democratic leadership and governance in the region, by initiating, leading, and implementing programmes and activities which engage the general public.

The Indo-Pacific: Geostrategic Challenges and Opportunities for Germany and Singapore

A strengthening of the defence co-operation between Germany and the countries in the region is an important priority for Germany’s Minister of Defence, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. On November 13, she will engage in a public virtual exchange with Singaporean Minister for Defence Dr. Ng Eng Hen in order to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the security cooperation between both countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

Session 03: Future of International Cooperation Post-COVID-19 Pandemic

After a successful 2nd session, the KASYP Virtual Discussion Series will now discuss the “Future of International Cooperation Post-COVID-19 Pandemic”. In this 3rd session, the panel discussion will examine the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on international political cooperation, project the economic changes in international trade, overseas development assistance, and world norms, and identify new ways of cooperation after the COVID-19 pandemic in order to continue the economic and political developments in Asia.

Sri Lanka under Gotabaya Rajapaksa: Domestic Challenges and International Priorities

ISAS-KAS Panel Discussion

After months of uncertainty and delays, Sri Lanka held its parliamentary elections on 5 August 2020. While the Gotabaya Rajapaksa government’s victory was expected, the overwhelming numbers it received were unprecedented. The parliamentary polls were a referendum on the government’s handling of COVID-19 and an endorsement of its performance in the last eight months. The panel will examine the political, economic, social and international challenges and imperatives for Gotabaya’s government following the parliamentary polls.

Election Campaigning for Political Parties

For this year, KASYP batch 10 and 11 will have a joint training-workshop on election campaigning for political parties and this will be delivered virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic this coming August 2-7 and 17-19, 2020.

KASYP Grand Alumni Meeting 2019

Celebrating A Decade of Shaping Democratic Leaders in Asia

The first KASYP Grand Alumni Meeting was a celebration of the 10th year of KASYP as a training programme for young Asian politicians with the aim of building their capacities to strengthen responsiveness and accountability of political parties in the region. As a milestone for the programme, the event was a mixture of celebrating friendship, revitalizing shared values, revisiting its vision and mission, and re- and learning new ideas about democracy. The event was comprised of different activities starting with the launch of the alumni exhibit, followed by a series of panel discussions, then a workshop on revisiting the KASYP alumni raison d’etre, after which a teambuilding followed, and finally a gala dinner to cap the entire event.

Local Governance and Development

As the second workshop of the KASYP training programme for Batch 10, the programme installed for them followed the new structure and topics introduced during the first workshop in Manila. The programme team has arranged activities in a reflective-active mixture. During mornings when participants’ attention is still active, lectures were the main pedagogical method used while in the afternoon, active learning such as worskhops were employed by the resource persons.

The 9th batch of KASYP (2018-2019) has concluded its final training in Germany last 25-31 August 2019 with 17 participants (9 males, 8 females) representing 7 Asian Political Parties and 7 countries namely Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, and the Philippines For this batch, there were 6 completed political projects including individual and group work.

3. Internationale Parlamentarierkonferenz zu Religions- und Bekenntnisfreiheit in Singapur

In Zusammenarbeit mit dem International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief (IPPFoRB) führte das KAS Rechtsstaatsprogramm Asien am 30. bis 31. Oktober 2019 in Singapur die dritte internationale Parlamentarierkonferenz zu Religions- und Bekenntnisfreiheit durch.

Innovationsexperten aus Asien besuchen Berlin

Im Bereich der digitalen Innovationen kann Deutschland heute viel von Asien lernen. Im September besuchte eine Delegation von zwölf asiatischen Innovationsexperten Berlin. Dabei hatten sie eine klare Botschaft: Wer die Zukunft in seinem Sinne gestalten will, muss Innovationen aktiv fördern und für Veränderung offen sein. Bei beidem habe Deutschland noch Nachholbedarf.

Das Regionalprogramm Politikdialog veranstalteten am 27. Juni 2019 gemeinsam mit dem Institut für Südasienforschung der National University of Singapore (ISAS) eine Podiumsdiskussion zur Rolle der digitalen Medien bei den indischen Parlamentswahlen 2019. Das Panel untersuchte die Auswirkungen von sozialen Medien nicht nur auf Wahlen, sondern auf die politische Kultur allgemein. Es bot auch Einblick in die digitalen Strategien von Parteien wie BJP und Congress und ging auf das Problem von fake news und Missinformation ein. E-Lection Bridge Asia-Pacific 2019

The E-Lection Bridge Asia-Pacific is a yearly event hosted by the Regional Programme Political Dialogue Asia, in order to facilitate exchange between campaign strategists from different countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Third Training Workshop for KASYP Batch 2018-2019

The third training of each Konrad Adenauer School for Young Politicians (KASYP) batch aims to provide the participants with the understanding of electoral campaigning and its many tools as well as the importance of providing organised electoral choices to citizens through political parties. To achieve this goal the 9th KASYP batch met from 22nd to 25th of April in Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region of China.
