KASYP 10th Year Grand Alumni Meeting

A decade of shaping young democratic leaders in Asia

This year's KASYP alumni meeting is a mixture of celebrating milestones, recognizing achievements, revisiting and reinventing the programme's raison d’etre, and strengthening camaraderie. It will include a Gala Dinner, Workshop Sessions, a Panel Discussion on the Future of Democracy in Asia in an Asian Centurty, as well as, some team building exercises. The meeting will be held this coming 08 - 10 August 2019 in Penang, Malaysia.

Konrad Adenauer School for Young Politicians (KASYP): 2nd Training Workshop for Batch (10) 2019-2020

Local Governance and Development

The second training workshop of the KASYP programme aims to provide participants with tools and knowledge to create effective democratic governance in societies facilitated by political parties. Topics for this training include decentralisation, local politics and governance, community-driven development, and constituency engagement. The programme will also facilitate visits to public institutions and dialogue with local leaders.

Workshop: Soziale Medien und die Wahlen in Indien

Bei den indischen Parlamentswahlen 2019 wurden digitale Medien und Technologien in großem Umfang und auf innovative Weise eingesetzt. Der gemeinsamt mit dem Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) veranstaltete Workshop analysiert die Rolle digitaler Medien in den Wahlkampagnen, das Ausmaß von Desinformationskampagnen und Möglichkeiten der Regulierung.

Panel Discussion: Panel Discussion: The Role of Digital Media in the 2019 Indian General Elections

The 2019 Indian general elections were dubbed by some as `WhatsApp election". The ISAS-KAS panel will discuss the ways in which political parties used digital media during the 2019 election campaign, the extent of disinformation and the attempts to curb fake news.

Asian Women Parliamentarian Caucus

Der “Asian Women Parliamentarian Caucus” ist ein Netzwerk asiatischer Parlamentarierinnen, die sich seit 2011 jährlich treffen, um die Rolle von Frauen in der Politik durch politischen Diskurs und Capacity Building Programme in ihren jeweiligen Ländern zu fördern. In diesem Jahr treffen sich die Parlamentarierinnen in Hong Kong zum Thema "Engaging Civil Society Organisation - Advocating Women’s Rights and Participation”. Auch der Blick auf SGD 16 „Frieden, Gerechtigkeit und starke Institutionen“ und die Frage danach, wie zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen und Parlamentarierinnen sich zusammen für mehr Rechte und eine bessere Partizipation der Frauen einsetzen können soll im Fokus der diesjährigen Veranstaltung stehen.

KAS E-lection Bridge Asia - Pacific 2019

2019 is an election year for most of the Asian countries and for the entire Europe. With the threats to democracy continue to persist, this conference will tackle the issues on the influence of military, ethnicity, and religion in democratic elections. The meeting will also explore the future of digital campaigning considering the advancement of information and communication technologies. At the same time, the experts will share best practice examples and discuss recently held and upcoming elections in the region. Main speaker of the conference is Dr. Klaus Schüler, who was the main campaign manager behind the last four successful election campaigns of Germany's governing party CDU.

Die Sicht von nicht-G20 Mitgliedern auf globale Entscheidungsfindung

Der T(hink)20 Gipfel ist ein Netzwerk, welches die G20 bei wissenschaftlichen und politischen Fragen berät. Während der Konferenz werden führende Denkfabriken innovative Politikempfehlungen erarbeiten, die den G20-Staaten helfen sollen, dringliche globale Herausforderungen zu adressieren und inklusives, nachhaltiges Wachstum zu generieren. Die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) unterstützt diesen T20 Prozess seit einigen Jahren und wird eine assoziierte Veranstaltung vor dem offiziellen Gipfel organisieren.

Leadership Training in Campaigning

The third training workshop of the KASYP training programme focuses on the role of political parities in elections and electoral campaigning. For this year, KASYP Batch (09) 2018-2019 will meet this coming April in Hong Kong SAR, People's Republic of China to learn and understand electoral campaigning and its many tools as well as the importance of providing organised electoral choices to the public through political parties.

Das Regionalprogramm Politischer Dialog hat eine neue Initiative namens KAS Network of Young Asian Security Experts gestartet. Die Gruppe wird sich aus politischen Beratern sowie Vertretern von Ministerien und Think Tanks zusammensetzen und vom 18. bis 20. März 2019 in Berlin zu ihrer ersten Sitzung zusammenkommen.

Roundtable Discussion on AI Policies in Asia

On 4 March, KAS Political Dialogue Asia Program hosted a roundtable discussion “AI Policy in Asia” for the delegation from the Federal Academy of Security Policy (BAKS) from Germany. The delegation, which consists of participants from private and public sectors in Germany, had a two-weeks fieldtrip in Asia (Singapore and Seoul) as part of the expert course on digitalization and security policy.

Module 01: Political Parties’ Functions and Organizations in Democratic Societies

This year, another cohort of KASYP will be launched this coming 13 – 19 February 2024 in the Philippines. The cohort will undergo with their first module on “political parties’ functions and organizations in democratic societies”, which aims to provide participants with background knowledge on diverse political environments and party systems in Asia as well as communication skills and leadership training.

Continued Partnership between KAS PDA and ISEAS

Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties to collaborate on a range of research activities such as on Myanmar, the Philippines, and ASEAN, among others.

KAS PDA and ISEAS have been successfully collaborating in the past. It dates back to 1979 when the German organisation began supporting ISEAS' research activities with annual grants. The signing of the MoU and the continuation of common projects stands testimony to the fruitful partnership.

International Conference on Water Management in Singapore

Sustainable Water Management: Improving Water Policy and Govenance in Emerging Asia

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s Regional Programme Political Dialogue Asia co-hosted an international conference together with the Regional Programme Energy Security and Climate Change (KAS Recap) Hongkong on “Sustainable Water Management: Improving Water Policy and Governance in Emerging Asia” in Singapore between the 6th and 9th of December. As the impacts of poor water governance can be felt across livelihoods,  jeopardising community well being,  social cohesion, migration, national security, the topic of the conference could not have been more timely – also since COP28 concurrently recognised the role of water for the climate change agenda.

Zur Erreichung des fünften Ziels der nachhaltigen Entwicklung, die Gleichstellung der Geschlechter, fand das diesjährige Treffen des „Asian Women Parliamentarian Caucus“ (AWPC) in Colombo in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Parlament von Sri Lanka statt.

Communication | Technology | Citizenship

CTeC Asia has brought together scholars, media professionals, civil society practitioners as well as policymakers to participate in the discussion on the impact of technologies towards communication and citizen’s participation with a series of keynote speeches and panel discussions. The event was hosted in Taipei and has attracted more than 100 participants from around 16 countries. Diverse topics related to social media, e-governance, political campaigning have been discussed during the conference.

38th ASEAN Roundtable: ASEAN in a Fragmented Global Order

Das ASEAN Studies Centre des ISEAS Yusof-Ishak Institute in Singapur lud am 3. Oktober 2023 zum jährlichen ASEAN Roundtable ein. Das renommierte Institut ist langjähriger Partner des Regionalprogramms Politikdialog Asien welches den Roundtable auch dieses Jahr erneut unterstützte.

3rd Asian Summer School on Political Parties and Democracy

The 3rd Asian Summer School on Political Parties and Democracy has been successfully concluded from 14 to 20 August 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In this in-person seminar, 14 young researchers, policymakers and academics from 10 different Asian countries had the opportunity to exchange their approaches and ideas on political parties and democracy in the Asian region and to present and discuss their research papers.
