International Summer School on Climate Change

Climate Adaptation Summer School in South Asia

KAS RECAP, the Consortium of South Asian Think Tanks (COSATT) and Kathmandu University and will organize a Climate Adaptation Summer School on 11-17 September 2022. It aims to raise awareness, engage and train young people in South Asia in the areas of climate adaptation and disaster management.

Climate change has far-reaching consequences for the future, necessitating widespread youth participation and involvement at all levels, from grassroots to policymaking. The summer school on climate change will allow young delegates from South Asian countries, including researchers and students, to learn more about climate change and its effects, Disaster risk reduction, see the fragile eco-system of Nepal, flood control measures as well as observe best practices adopted by the governments in South Asia and local communities, particularly in Nepal, to mitigate climatic impacts.

 

In the one-week training, a series of workshops will be conducted by climate adaptation scholars and experts from Asia-Pacific. Participants explore and discuss a wide range of climate adaptation issues such as access to adaptation of catastrophic events, socio-economic impacts of climate change, water management, prediction of catastrophic events and etc. In addition to the theoretical parts, participants will be taken for organisational tours and field visits for first-hand experience of the impact of hydro-meteorological disasters towards the local community. The summer school welcomes students from diverse backgrounds who are interested in learning about climate change and addressing problems in climate adaptation.
