The administrative judiciary in Lebanon is facing several challenges which potentially threaten an efficient and independent administration of justice. These challenges result from a series of procedural and organizational aspects such as the appointment of judges, their remuneration, disciplinary procedures, and general issues relating to political interference, sectarianism and gender balance. Against this background, the claim for an independent judiciary, guaranteeing a fair trial, emerged as one of the main demands within civil society during the political upheaval initiated on 17 October 2020 in Lebanon.

Taking up this issue, the Rule of Law Programme for the Middle East / North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in cooperation with the Observatory for Public Service and Good Governance of the University Saint-Joseph (USJ), is organizing online seminar on the “Administrative Jurisdiction - Justice at the Heart of Good Governance” providing a platform for the Lebanese public to exchange and learn more about the importance and functioning of the Lebanese administrative judiciary. In addition, challenges and current reform proposals formulated amongst the Lebanese civil society will be discussed in order to foster awareness and an informed debate among the society.
