Before the end of the year, 12 new administrative courts (first-instance chamber courts) will be established across Tunisia. This will deconcentrate administrative justice and make it easier for citizens outside Tunis to access. One of the reasons is municipal elections to be held in December for the first time. Until then, the newly created regional administrative courts have to be set up and be operational due to their accompanying and monitoring role in those elections.

In cooperation with the Tunisian Supreme Administrative Court (Haut Tribunal Administratif), the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation will organize a two-day workshop from 26 to 28 September 2017, accompanying the establishment of the regional administrative courts.

The workshop will serve to implement the government's reform plan of the Tunisian judiciary, which will include the establishment of twelve regional administrative courts. The administrative judiciary has jurisdiction over any abuse of power by the administration as well as administrative disputes and it exercises advisory functions in accordance to the law. The commissioning of the new 12 regional chamber courts is intended to improve access to justice by relieving the first-instance chamber in the capital, and creating a more efficient administrative jurisdiction.

The incoming Tunisian court presidents will discuss with their colleagues from Germany and France, as part of an exchange of experiences and training, various topics and practical issues with regard to managing a court on a daily basis.
