The Role of Indigenous Knowledge on adaptating to Climate Change in Zimbabwe -BULAWAYO

Expert Panel Discussion and Student Debate on the role of Indigenous Knowledge on Climate Change in Zimbabwe

A discussion on how local rural communities have managed to adapt to the the changing climate and the lessons that have been passed down from generation to generation. The panel discussion draws from some leading scholars from the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and some community resilience experts from the local rural areas sorrounding Bulawayo. The discussion also offers a space for future researchers and academics to participate in the conversation in a way that initiates conversation, sparks interests and also breaks down very complex issues into very accessible ones by allowing university students to debate topics that expand their thinking on climate change issues affecting Zimbabwe. The topic for the day will be : The future of Zimbabwean daptation to the changing climate is in the prioritisation of Indegenous Knowledge.

Capacity Building for the Dissemination of Climate Change Information by Media Practitioners.

Southern Region

The capacity building programme was meant to enlighten media practitioners in the southern part of Zimbabwe on climate strategy documents in place and be able to generate articles understood by the general public particularly focusing on the revised Zimbabwe Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) In specific, the workshop sought to: Build capacity of media practitioners on climate strategy documents in place as well as various climate change management initiatives with the goal of sensitizing them on the need to report extensively and intensively on the same. It equiped the media practitioners with information, knowledge and skills to understand the climate strategy documents, with a view to demystifying the same for their audience.

The panelists discussed the changing role of women in Zimbabwe’s economic structures and the priorities for promoting greater economic inclusion, agency and influence of women in the country. It also focused on the differing impacts of COVID-19 on women’s economic activities across various sectors, as well as along rural-urban and formal-informal economy lines.

Als das Militär in Harare einrückte und Präsident Mugabe zum Rücktritt zwang, blickte die Welt auf Simbabwe. Viele sahen die Ereignisse als Fanal für Demokratie und wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung. Waren diese Hoffnungen voreilig oder steht der lang erhoffte politische Wandel tatsächlich bevor?

Auf Einladung der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung waren vergangene Woche Vertreter der simbabwischen Zivilgesellschaft zu Gast in Deutschland. Sie nahmen an der UN- Weltklimakonferenz in Bonn teil und informierten sich über das Zusammenspiel von Staat und Zivilgesellschaft zum Schutz der Umwelt und Förderung nachhaltiger Entwicklung.

Municipal Environment Policy and National Climate Policy - A Perspective of Implementation

On the 17th of February 2017, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Zimbabwe office teamed up with COMALISO, a local NGO to undertake a workshop/consultative forum in Ruwa on the policy issue of Climate change. The particular question at hand was that of how the National Government Climate change policy was being implemented at municipal level, the idea being that for the national policy to work, various municipalities including grassroots initiatives would have to be in sync with the National governments strategy.

Social Contract: Business Seeks To Preserve Value in A VUCA Environment

On the 16th of February 2017, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Zimbabwe in cooperation with the Employers Confederation of Zimbabwe (EMCOZ) organized a conference on the pro-posed Social Contract. The aim of the activity was promoting dialogue between the business community, the ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare as well as the National Social Security Authority (NSSA).
