ANC-Parteitag in Südafrika: Politische Grabenkämpfe in stürmischen Zeiten

The youth vote in the 2021 Local Government Elections within five metropolitan municipalities

by: Martin Bekker and Carin Runciman

"The 2021 local government election continued a trend of low and declining turnout amongst young and first-time voters. Of the nearly 1.8 million 18-19-year-olds who were eligible to vote in the last election, 90% did not register. Similarly, less than 20% of the population aged 20 to 35 registered to vote, in contrast to over 90% of the population aged 40"

ESG and good corporate governance in relation to the use of pension funds:

Comparison between the United Kingdomand South Africa

Before we can analyse the efficacy of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) in relation to pension funds in the City of London UK and South Africa we must assess the progress that has taken placeto date, both positive and negative. The City of Londonis in advance of South Africa in its development of ESG as atoolfor good corporate governanceand understanding of intangible assets and valuation;while South Africa is in the early stages of doing soespecially in relation to their companies integrating ESG into practice. What is clear is that support for good governance when allocating investment in pension funds should ensure thatthe right choices are made by pension fund managers and trustees to encourage the environmentally sustainable and socially beneficial use of the often, huge sumsraised by pension savers. This imperative is as important in the City of London as it is in South Africa.Mitigating climate change is probably the most urgent imperativeat present. By: Ruth Taplin and Neels Kilian
