Bernadette Atuahene hat mit ihrem Buch „We Want What's Ours“ die erste Phase der Landreform zwischen 1994 und 2008 in Südafrika in über 150 Interviews evaluiert und ein international anwendbares Konzept der Wiederherstellung von Recht und Würde nach Zwangsenteignung durch den Staat geschaffen. Die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung hat mit Frau Atuahene Buchpräsentationen in Johannesburg, Durban, Kapstadt und Pretoria organisiert und finanziert.

Am 3. und 4. September 2014 trafen sich auf Einladung der KAS bereits zum zweiten Mal Vertreter von Regierung, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft, um sich über die Rolle der Sozialwirtschaft für nachhaltige Entwicklung in Südafrika auszutauschen und zu diskutieren. In Vorträgen und Podiumsdiskussionen fand eine rege Auseinandersetzung mit Fragen zur Förderung, Finanzierung und dem rechtlichen Rahmen für sozial verantwortungsvolle Unternehmen statt.

The Social and Solidarity Economy Conference Report

On the 3rd and 4th of September 2014 representatives from the government, economic sector and academic institutions gathered for a second time, on the invitation of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), to discuss and exchange ideas on the role of the social economy for South Africa’s sustainable development. Presentations and panel dis-cussions stressed questions of development, funding and the legislative framework for socially responsible corporations. Matthias Schäfer, head of the Economic Policy Department of KAS in Berlin, gave insight into the German model of the Social Market Economy.

KAS-GPPi African Civil Society Workshop Report 14-15 August 2014

Over the 14 and 15 August, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) co-hosted an African Civil Society Circle workshop with its partner the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi). The intention of the workshop was to expand on a new initiative to strengthen the voices of Sub-Saharan African civil society organizations in global debates and forums on development issues. In total 10 different organizations, excluding KAS and GPPi, took part in the pilot gathering of this Civil Society Circle.

Fachkonferenz in der Villa La Collina in Cadenabbia

Die Entwicklung des afrikanischen Kontinents seit dem Fall der Berliner Mauer war das Thema einer Fachkonferenz vom 20.-23.7.2014 in der Villa La Collina in Cadenabbia, zu der die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung und die südafrikanische Brenthurst Foundation eingeladen hatten. Vertreter von Regierungen, der EU, Think Tanks, Universitäten, Unternehmen, Banken und Diplomaten aus acht afrikanischen Staaten sowie aus China, Costa Rica, Großbritannien, Indien und der USA verfolgten insbesondere die Frage, welche Auswirkungen das Ende des Kalten Krieges auf die Ideologiediskussion in Afrika hatte.
