An Innovation Fireplace that brought together Ugandan startups and German politicians

Ugandan Startup Ecosystem

On 14th of June, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), together with Media Challenge Initiative (MCI), hosted the Innovation Fireplace: A Panel discussion and exhibition of the Ugandan Startup Ecosystem at MCI Media Hub. More than 30 startup innovators met with a delegation of German Members of Parliament to discuss startup investment, political economy, ease of doing business and to showcase their innovations. The discussion focused on the prospects of Uganda's younger generation for investment and innovation to promote entrepreneurship and employment. Afterwards, the German delegates visited the various exhibition booths and talked to leading young innovators.

Games and Politics

Interactive Exhibition

Games and Politics is a touring exhibition by Goethe Institut that has been travelling around the globe, last stop was Addis Ababa in Ethopia. This year’s edition is being hosted in Kampala (March - May) in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Uganda and South Sudan and the Design Hub Kampala. It is based on the exhibition Global Games by the ZKM (Zentrum für Kunst und Medien) in Karlsruhe, Germany, and focuses explicitly on political games created since 2004.

Am Freitag, den 10. August, wurde das Marriot Hotel in Kampala zur Bühne für die zukünftige wirtschaftliche Entwicklung Ugandas: In zwei Diskussionsrunden, die die Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) zusammen mit dem Zentrum für Entwicklungsalternativen (CDA) organisierte, kamen Vertreter des Energiesektors, der Regierung und der Medien zusammen. Sie sprachen über die Veränderungen, die der Energiesektor durchlaufen müsse, um Ugandas Wirtschaft zukünftig produktiver zu gestalten

South Sudanese community in Byeyale refugee settlement united to resolve conflict.

At various refugee settlements in Uganda where South Sudanese reside, there have been outbursts of violence along ethnic lines. It is based on this background that on Saturday 4th august 2018, the Network of South Sudanese Civil Society Organizations in Uganda (NoSSCOU) and its implementing partner SSOW Care Foundation with support from the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) carried a civic education awareness discussion on the role of community involvement in conflict resolution in Bweyale refugee settlement of Kiryadongo district in Northern Uganda.

Südsudanesisches Flüchtlingslager im Norden Ugandas für eine gemeinsame Konfliktbearbeitung vereint

In verschiedenen Flüchtlingssiedlungen in Uganda, in denen vorwiegend Südsudanesen leben, kam es zu Ausbrüchen von Gewalt entlang ethnischer Zugehörigkeiten. Vor diesem Hintergrund veranstalteten das Netzwerk südsudanesischer zivilgesellschaftlicher Organisationen in Uganda (NOSSCOU) und sein Implementierungspartner SSOW Care Foundation mit Unterstützung der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) am Samstag, den 4. August 2018, ein Sensibilisierungstraining.

Kiboga local leaders participate in a two day civic

For the third time, the Governance Accountability Civil society network of Uganda (GAIN Uganda)organized a civic education training for its members in 13 districts in four regions. One of the trainings took place in Bukomero, Kiboga, where representatives of different communities came together to talk about democracy.

Zum dritten Mal organisierte das Governance Accountability Civil Society-Netzwerk Uganda (GAIN Uganda) für seine Mitglieder in 13 Distrikten eine Schulung in ziviler Bürgerbeteiligung und politischer Bildung. Eine der Schulungen fand in Bukomero, Kiboga statt. Dort trafen sich Vertreter des Gemeinderates, der Bürgermeister und Mitglieder verschiedener Gemeinden, um gemeinsam über die Rolle von Bürgern und des Staat auf lokaler Ebene zu sprechen.

Nutzung von Medien für effektive politische Kommunikation

Die Fellows der Youth 4 Policy (Y4P) Initiative trafen am Freitag, den 27. Juli, zwei herausragende Experten in ihren jeweiligen Bereichen. Mit Prof. Dr. Maggie Kigozi, ehemalige Direktorin der Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) und Charles Mwangushya, erfahrener Journalist der Nation Media Group (NMG), diskutierten die Y4P-Fellows Möglichkeiten, wie sie öffentliche Unterstützung für ihre politischen Vorschläge erhalten.

THE REFUGEE CRISIS: A WOMENS RIGHT ISSUE

Refugees have been spilling out of the countries intoneighbouring ones and others farther afield for quite a while now. The reason: civil warin South Sudan and a relentless and egregious persecution of the Rohingyas in Myanmar.Beside these two countries, others that have become the largest sources of refugees, oftendue to armed conflict, are Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo,the Central African Republic, Eritrea and Burundi.
