Thirty years after German reunification, the allies on both sides of the Atlantic have to deal with shifting geopolitical realities. The rise of China, the role of Russia, the migration crisis, climate change, cyber-security, "Brexit" as well as the consequences of Covid-19 pose challenges for Europe and the United States. Partnership among Western allies is more important than ever. Yet, today’s transatlantic cooperation has rarely been more complex. How should leaders balance domestic circumstances and cooperative foreign policy?  How can the EU and the U.S. strengthen international rules and ensure a more inclusive economic recovery from the effects of the pandemic?
