The political participation of women in Upper Egypt

The political involvement and participation of women is prerequisite for a sound democracy. In cooperation with the Development Program for Women and Children (DPWC), KAS Egypt organized a two-day workshop to train politically active women and hence equip them with the know-how for professional political engagement.

Part II dealt with the future of political parties in Egypt.

4th Economic Forum: Leaders in the Public Service should decide to make a difference!

The 4th Economic Forum was held on Friday, 4th March 2011, in Lilongwe. Both the main presenter and the discussant agreed that the role of politics cannot be overemphasized in attaining effectiveness in the public service, therefore stressing the importance of political leadership to attaining an effective public service. Leaders in the public service should decide to make a difference, thereby creating ‘islands of excellence’ within the civil service.

6th YPU Annual General Conference Elects New National Secretariat

Conference report

The 6th Annual General Conference for the Young Politicians Union (YPU) took place from 4th to 6th February 2011 at Kanjedza Lodge in Blantyre. The conference that brought together 87 delegates from 23 districts was officially opened by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Development- Charles Mchacha, MP. Political parties represented by the delegates included the DPP, MCP, UDF, AFORD, PPM, PETRA, AFORD, RP, MDP and MAFUNDE.

“Malawians must have a shared sense of national consciousness and should refuse favors from politicians that are not in the public interest”, highlighted Professor Dr. Blessings Chinsinga during the 3. Economic Forum Seminar in Malawi. Organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) in collaboration with the Malawi Economic Justice Network and the Economics Association of Malawi, the event attracted professionals from different areas to discuss the current situation of the civil service in the country and ways to improve its performance.

Van Rompuy encourages Europe

800 citizens listen to the first „State of Europe“ address at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin

„Today, Europe’s 500 million citizens have the foundation on which to build a better Europe in the future,” said Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council in the first „State of Europe“ address. Van Rompuy used this address to promote a confident and strong Europe in front of an audience of 800 citizens at the historic Pergamon Museum in Berlin.

From Partnership to Neighbourship - Egypt and the European Union

This guest lecture was part of a mutual event by KAS Egypt and FEPS (Faculty of Economics and Political Science) of Cairo University. The lecture was aimed at familiarising students with the changes occuring in the European-Egyptian relations, at illustrating geopolitical correlations, and at triggering critical discussions.
