After the events in Istanbul and Ankara, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Turkey in cooperation with the Center for Migration Research of the Turkish-German University (TAGU) organized the third certificate program on migration. The program took place from February 17 - 21 at the Yaşar University in Izmir.
Lectures by renowned scientists in the field of migration research and representatives of national and international NGOs addressed one of the most important topics that has strongly influenced the whole world and Turkey in particular in recent years. The participants received an interdisciplinary as well as a subject-specific approach to the topic of migration.
The program was enriched by social activities such as films about migration and excursions. During the study excursions, the project "Kitchen of Hope" of the World Food Programme and the Harmandali Removal Centre in Izmir were visited.

Lecture: "Overview of Migration and Social Integration in Turkey" - Prof. Dr. M. Murat Erdoğan, Turkish-German University (TDU) Istanbul
Prof. Erdoğan informed the participants about the Syrian refugees in Turkey and gave information about the Turks living abroad.
Lecture: "What Migration?: An Analysis of Terms" - Dr. Nihal Eminoğlu, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University
Dr. Eminoğlu pointed out the importance of using the right terms in migration research.
Film screening: "Guest” - Andaç Haznedaroğlu

Lecture: "Human Trafficking and Irregular Migration" - Dr. Ayselin Gözde Yıldız, Yaşar University
Dr. Yıldız illustrated how refuge and illegal migration is favoured and globalised by modern means of communication and a growing smuggling crime.
Lecture: "Migration and Gender" - Prof. Dr. Şebnem Akçapar, Ankara Social Science University (ASBÜ)
In her presentation, Prof. Akçapar emphasized in particular the situation of women and LGBTI refugees and enabled the participants to develop an awareness of this group in an interactive workshop.

Lecture: Representatives from the Office of National Education Izmir, Turkish Red Crescent Izmir and Association for Solidarity with Refugees.
They shared their experiences in migration management and informed the participants about career and internship opportunities in national and international organizations.
Lecture: "Diaspora and Turks Abroad" - Dr. Onur Unutulmaz, Ankara Social Science University (ASBÜ)
Dr. Unutulmaze evaluated the concept of diaspora, discussed the migration of Turks abroad, the development of identity formation and relations of belonging.
Exkursion: "Kitchen of Hope" of the World Food Programme in cooperation with the Turkish Ministry of Education
Selected participants visited the project, in which refugees learn the art of cooking together with Turkish citizens. This project inspired the participants, as the vocational training enables integration into the labour market and at the same time social integration.

Lecture: "Migration and Populism" - Dr. Gökay Özerim, Yasar University
Dr. Özerim highlighted the connection between migration and populism.
Lecture: Representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Izmir briefed participants on their activities for refugees in Turkey.

Excursion: Harmandalı Removal centre in İzmir
The head of the Removal Centre and representatives of the Turkish Ministry of the Interior for Migration gave the participants detailed insights into the work of this institution through a guided tour and answered all open questions in an interactive conference.
