The circle of friends was founded in November 1999 and has approx. 1,750 sponsors.

Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler

Shareholder of the Schaeffler Group

“I support the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and their activities in Germany and abroad, since the commitment to freedom and responsibility based on a Christian understanding of what it means to be human, is as an elementary precondition for a cosmopolitan society and for the social market economy.”

Hans-Joachim Vieweger

“As a student I was sponsored by the KAS, that is why I am now involved in the circle of fellows and supported the circle of friends.”

Ursula Doppmeier MdL

Member of the North Rhine-Westphalia Landtag

“In a changing world, it remains our mission to think jointly about values and reality and to act accordingly. Christian/social, liberal and conservative value form the basis of this. In order to support the foundation’s important work, namely the imparting of our basic values and beliefs on society, I have become a sponsor of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s circle of friends.”

Klaus Landowsky

“The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s circle of friends consists of personalities who contribute their forward-looking ideas to the political discussion with the aim of developing our civilian/democratic state in a liberal, social and culturally open sense.”

Dr Jürgen Cramer

Member of the Board of Directors of Sparkassen DirektVerischerung AG

“The KAS invested a lot in me during my studies, not only financially but also in the form of educational training programmes. That is not to mention the rhetoric seminars and seminar abroad in Turkey. It is high time to give something back. Thank you very much!”

Fritz Peschkes

“As a member of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s circle of friends, I value above all the in-depth articles and mailings on German foreign policy topics and for a better understanding between other states and peoples across the globe. What is more, there is a wide range of lectures, events and study trips. Last but not least, I would like to express my high esteem for Konrad Adenauer with my membership. With wisdom and skills in diplomacy, diligence and discipline, he led us away from the total destruction caused by National Socialism, towards a union among the peoples of Europe. He was one of the best politicians in German history.”

Christoph Stuke

Graduate of Business Administration

“Since 2005, I have participated in seminars and events by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has never failed to impress with me with its extensive, competent and well-organised range of political education events. I found the opportunity afforded by the foundation to hear contemporary witnesses to be particularly enriching. My expectations are nearly always surpassed by the foundation. Hence, in 2007 I was even more convinced of the fact that this outstanding work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung deserves support. I consider my membership in the circle of friends as a good opportunity to express my connection with the KAS.”

Dr Michael Trautvetter

Senior Staff

“For me, joining the KAS circle of friends many years ago was both a natural step and one that was close to my heart. In this way, I was able and continue to give something back to the KAS who gave me so much support over the years. Unfortunately, due to my professional commitments, I am only seldom able to actively use the circle of friends network and foster interactions. Especially against the backdrop of an often-obscure diversity of opinion that prevails in our globally networked world, it is always helpful to rely on a network of fundamentally liked-minded people. A welcome addition offered by the circle of friends are above all the cultural events, which are offered on a regular basis.”

Dr Med Irmgard Winkens

Retired Doctor

“The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s circle of friends helped me when giving study advice to my Bolivian friends. The circle provides comprehensive travel opportunities with respect to preparatory orientation as well as orientation during travels in terms of the history, art history and religion of the respective destination. In sum, the KAS circle of friends is tantamount to a cultural enrichment.”

Lutz Thierfeldt

Fire Fighter

“I became aware of lectures held by the KAS in the DB reservist association. The horizon for political and cultural contexts has expanded as a result. For me as a Thuringian, the new challenges facing my family became easier to understand, as well as those beyond Thuringia itself with a view to Europe. Through learning and tangible experiences, the contact with KAS has enriched our lives.”

Dr h.c. Johannes Gerster

Former member of the state parliament and of the Bundestag and member of the CDU federal executive board, chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Israelstiftung in Germany, and winner of the Great Cross of Merit with Star of the Federal Republic of Germany

"Between 1997 and 2006 I worked for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Jerusalem/Israel. The work on-site afforded me the opportunity to set up a Konrad Adenauer conference centre in the heart of Jerusalem together with Teddy Kollek and the Jerusalem Foundation. To this day, Jews, Christians, Muslims, Israelis and Palestinians meet there to engage in dialogue forums. This centre was financed exclusively by donations. Over the course of nine years, in seven Israeli-Palestinian working groups we have organised well over 100 Israeli-Palestinian meetings to resolve day-to-day political problems. During the farewell speech of the signatory of the centre, Israel's Police Minister Gideon Esra, declared, “the work of the Adenauer foundation has significantly contributed towards the de-escalation of violence between Palestinians and Israelis.” I joined the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s circle of friends in order to promote these KAS projects in crisis areas.”

Rudolf Henke MdB

Member of the German Bundestag

“The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung gleans information about political and social developments that are of major importance for the future. Similar to a navigation system, it identifies possible ways of shaping policy in the years to come. I am grateful that we have this source of ideas.”

Wilhelm Lüdeling

Pensioner and member of the CDU for 52 years, including 25 years as executive board member of the CDU Municipalities Association in Badbergen

“I became a sponsor of the circle of friends in order to participate in the events, seminars and lectures of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. I have already taken part in a seminar that I very much enjoyed.”

Dr Christoph Müllerleile

Expert for fundraising and public relations, co-founder and founding chairperson of the German Fundraising Association

“I joined the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s circle of friends because I worked for the KAS abroad for a few years and whose beneficial global work in the spirit of Christian humanity I am well acquainted with.”

Dr Stephan Wegener

Former KAS employee, often involved in voluntary work

“My membership in the circle of friends can be explained by the fact that I was initially employed as a freelance and then as a full-time member of staff since the very beginning of KAS. Over the years, I worked in Latin America, Asia and Europe. It became increasingly clear to me that the theoretical and practical bases of the foundation (Christian social doctrine, social market economy and a Christian understanding of what it means to be human), is the sole meaningful basis for creating an economy and society that foster human dignity.”

Dr Rainer Schaller

Plant Manager and Patent Agent in Process Engineering

“I still consider myself as fortunate and privileged to have been funded by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung during my period of study: This enabled me to make many friends and gain many valuable insights. Hence, for me it is self-evident that I wish to do as much as I can for the foundation and continue to remain in close contact: The circle of friends gives you the opportunity to do so!"

Dr Hanspeter Bell

Retired Federal Public Prosecutor

“I came into contact with the Konrad-Adenuaer-Stiftung through the “state political meetings” initiated by Dr Klein (member of the German Bundestag and judge at the Federal Constitutional Court). My intention was, in meetings with leading politicians and parliamentarians, to raise awareness about the concerns of implementing legislative procedures in practice. In doing so, I became acquainted with the broad education programme offered by the KAS and saw this as an opportunity to take advantage of it. That is why joining the circle of friends was a natural step for me. By participating in seminars and study trips, I broadened my knowledge about the background of political developments and current issues both in Germany and abroad. Based on directly acquired knowledge about economic and political conditions, I was able to develop my own standards for their assessment irrespective of news reports disseminated in the media.”

Hans Theo Klug

Parliamentary party leader of the CDU in the city council of Brühl

“I support the members of the KAS circle of friends for several reasons. The KAS superbly cultivates the legacy of Konrad Adenuaer and its scholarships support young people who are both willing and able to devote themselves to the common good and to assume responsibility. The KAS lends function and mandate holders essential specialist support when accomplishing their tasks. Moreover, their offers and events enable encounters, contacts and networking, which provide an impetus for forming your own opinion and for your own political work as well as opening up new horizons.”
