Programs of Political Parties in Russia

A Comparative Study

Economic relations between EU and Russia are considered to be perspective and potential for future improvement. EU is the leading trade partner of Russia. Russia’s accession to the WTO in 2012 is seen as the step towards convergence. According to the surveys, the general perception of Russia was described as positive by the majority of the EU population. However, this positive image is resisted by critical or even openly negative assessment of EU and Russia relations formulated sometimes by party politics.

It is evident from the programs of the political parties, Russia perceives itself as powerful country in the multipolar world. And her foreign policy is tending to focus on closer cooperation with the countries of the former Soviet Union.

The study about relations between Russia and EU on the base of party programs is unusual, what is connected with not enough serious perception. However the study of party programs allows to get information about the perception of the countries of EU by the Russia’s political elites and to forward these findings to the supporters.

The aims of Russian foreign policy, formulated in the programs of the political parties, are uncertain, that is why this analysis can be considered only as a guide. On the other hand, only because of this reason, party programs are suitable for determination of the fundamental values and aims of the Russian European and foreign policy.
