Invest in the Future

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung directly pursues charitable purposes on a Christian democratic basis. In joint forces with partners, friends and sponsors in Germany and abroad as well as a committed and motivated team of employees, its main task is to promote liberal democracy through activities in Germany and worldwide, present the basic elements of a social market economy and finally to develop and strengthen a value consensus. Through political dialogue, the foundation contributes towards understanding across national and cultural borders.

Given that public funding for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is not secured over the long-term, the foundation’s projects and programmes increasingly rely upon complementary support and funding from private sources. If the foundation’s work is to remain at a consistently high level in future, this requires initiative, self-help and civic engagement at all levels. We need your support to carry out this work in the spirit of Konrad Adenauer.

On this page, we have demonstrated how you can support our work and encourage the Christian democratic influence in society and in politics.

By virtue of the non-profit status of the KAS, all possibilities for support listed here are tax-deductible or subject to tax incentives.

Endowment or Establishment of a Fund

Long-term support for individual tasks carried out by KAS can be achieved by setting up a fund or an endowment to an existing fund. Under certain conditions, the funds may bear the name of their founder.

Benefactors and donors have achieved a lot through funds – here are a few examples:

Support the Theodor-und-Elisa-Weimar Fonds!

Erica Weimar who passed away in late 1997, bequeathed her assets to the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. In accordance with her wishes, the KAS set up a fund named after her parents, Theodor and Elisa Weimar. The fund uses its proceeds to support the academic education and training of talented young people, particular German students and gifted young journalists.

Support the Werner-Hintzler-Fonds!

In the year 2000, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung was granted an inheritance from the estate of Werner Hintzler in order to financially strengthen political education work. During his lifetime, Werner Hintzler was devoted to the principles and life work of Konrad Adenauer and his last will reflects his wish to financially support democracy and rule of law over the long-term.

Support the EHF 2010 (Else-Heiliger-Fonds)!

Even ten years before her death, in September 1993, Else Heiliger determined the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung as sole heir to her assets under the condition that it promotes and financially supports needy German artists.

The foundation used the estate assets to found the the Elise-Heiliger-Fonds (EHF) in 1994. Since then, it has supported artists in a variety of ways and financed important cultural activities of young talent. Given that Else Heiliger decreed that her assets be used promptly, the programme expired at the end of 2009.

In order to secure this successful support of artists beyond the year 2009, dedicated sponsors of contemporary art initiated the trustee programme “EHF 2010”. In line with the civic commitment demonstrated by Else Heiliger, each trustee supports the fund with €30,000 and hence contributes towards the KAS’ continued assistance to artists during key stages of their career.

Support the Fonds Soziale Marktwirtschaft!

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung established this fund in May 2004 with a first major donation, which has since received further funds. From the fund assets and its proceeds, the foundation supports a broad spectrum of activities that focus on the ideas and principles underpinning a social market economy. The objective is to achieve widespread acceptance of the social market economy in Germany and worldwide.

Since 2002, each year the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has been awarding the Social Market Economy Prize, which honours outstanding, exemplary achievements by individuals in the spirit of the social market economy. The previous winners are: Professor Werner Otto, Professor Berthold Leibinger, Helmut O. Maucher, Hans B. Bauerfeind, Sybill Storz, Arend Oetker, Peter Wichtel, Eva Mayr-Stihl and Hans Peter Stihl, Regina Görner, Dr Jochen F. This fund is used to finance measures for educational work – primarily the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung training institute in Dresden. The measures mainly consist of educational events, exhibitions or the funding of individual or several persons based on the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s Articles of Association. Civitas-Bernhard-Vogel-Stiftung

In early 2007, dedicated citizens from politics and the economy founded the “Civitas-Bernhard-Vogel-Stiftung”. The new foundation is designed to be a beneficiary foundation of the KAS. Its statutory purposes are largely identical with those of KAS.

Support the Civitas-Bernhard-Vogel-Stiftung!

The Civitas-Bernhard-Vogel-Stiftung is not operationally active itself, but rather funds Konrad Adenauer Foundation projects from the proceeds of its capital stock.

This is a way to harness the benefits of a non-profit organisation for future work carried out by KAS. When it comes to donating one’s will and legacies, the Civitas-Bernhard-Vogel-Stiftung also provides the advantage of preserving capital over the long-term and serving the non-profit purpose through investment income. Furthermore, donations in the capital reserves of a non-profit foundation are subject to high levels of tax relief.

We would be happy to explain in person how you can take advantage of tax benefits associated with an endowment contribution.

Inheritance and Legacy

Nobody enjoys talking about inheritance during their lifetime. Hence, it is hardly surprising that 82 per cent of all federal citizens die without a will. This is despite the fact that unregulated inheritance relationships often lead to disputes. Added to this is the fact that legal rules on succession along with the tax burdens, are often unknown. Unpleasant surprises during asset succession, conflicts in the family or unnecessary tax burdens can be avoided by laying down clear rules beforehand and observing legal and tax requirements.

Request an inheritance brochure!

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung provides preliminary assistance on all issues relating to the will with its brochure “give the gift of a future”. The offer is rounded off with checklists for your personal financial statement as well as numerous useful tips that are easy to understand.

You can request a brochure from:

Get Involved and Save Taxes

Changes to non-profit and donation law, which entered into force retroactively as of 1 January 2007, enable significant tax breaks for donors and benefactors. The special expenses deduction for endowment contributions towards a non-profit foundation’s basic assets has also been increased. With an endowment contribution towards an existing fund of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung or by founding a new fund benefiting other aims (as chosen by you), which are laid down in the Articles of Association, you are supporting democracy and rule or law and contributing towards securing peace and freedom around the world.

Non-Profit Status of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is a charitable association with headquarters in Sankt Augustin. By decision of the Sankt Augustin tax office dated 4 April 2013, it was recognised as exclusively and directly non-profit, serving particularly worthy purposes and belonging to the corporations, associations of persons or assets referred to in § 5 (1) Clause 9 of the corporation tax law (KStG).
